Happy New Year!!

Hello again everyone! Hope that all of your holidays were just as fun and exciting as mine were. The month started out as just another month, went to school, and all the other stuff. But as the month went one things got busier and busier. I got the chance to do many community service activites, as well as become recertified as a soccer referee. There were also more matches and tournaments to go to, shopping to do, and all my homework, but it got done. On Christmas Eve my family went to the family "party" that we go to every year, and the coolest thing happened, my uncle, who owns a dairy farm, offered me a job. Of course I accepted his offer because I have always wanted to work there. Christmas day some family came over and we had dinner and spent the day together. The day after we went to my Grandma's for dinner.
Well beings that January has begun Farm show is coming even faster and with that I have had to spend more time with my lambs, goats, and pigs. I am so excited to get to show them because thats my thing, showing. I always get so excitd for any show. And after I come home from farm show i should have my first 2 litters of baby piglets this year!!!!

Favorite Parts of December

December is one of my favorite months. Not only because of all the Christmas spirit, but because of how everyone cares for one another. There are so many charity cases at their peak due to the holiday season. There are many soup kitchens where one can volunteer and help those less fortunate. Also there are many charities like The Christmas Tree where one can donate clothes, food, and toys for presents for families in tough situations. With the holidays approaching everyone feels more inclined to donate to others. I think it is great how everyone helps out. However, I wish that people would help more then just the holidays. Another great thing about December is the breaks that we get. It allows for more family time. I see more family in the month of December then any other month.
This year there was one more thing that added to the excitement of December. I knew that shortly after December was over that the council was heading off to the Farm Show. I spent a bit of the month preparing for Farm Show and State Leadership Conference. There has been quite a bit of scripts to read, schedules to figure out, and numerous other things. However, even with all the work, I am still excited for the next couple of weeks to come.

Where is all the snow?!

Hey everyone! December didn't give us much snow so hopefully January will! I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Christmas and New Year. Although it wasn't the white Christmas that everyone hopes for, it was still a great time to be able to be with family. It was great to go see my Grandma, cousins, aunts, and uncles and it was also great to be able to Skype my sister while we all opened presents. One of the best presents that I received, was a kitten that my dad got me because I had been wanting her ever since she was born and of course when i opened the bag she was in, I cried my eyes out because I was so happy! But by far the best present was being there as a family on Christmas.

Earlier in the month, I started my new job at a pet store! I never knew how much work went into taking care of all the animals and keeping the store looking spotless. It has definitely been one of the best jobs I have ever worked at because hopefully someday, I will become a Vet!

Another great experience was when my mom and I took over the donations that my local 4-H club had collected for Centre Wildlife Care near State College. It was incredible to see some of the animals that they had and all the work they put into helping them recover so that someday they can be released back into the wild.

As for January and the many months of 2012 to come, the State Council has many exciting events to come! Farm Show is quickly approaching and we can't wait to be there. Also this month is the State Leadership Conference! It is going to so much fun this year and will definitely be one to remember!

The new year

Another year over, a new one just begins. So this year I took the leap of jumping into the biggest role I have ever had in my life. By becoming an officer on State Council. This has been challenging at times so far, but I have enjoyed it thus far and am hoping that won't change when we really start getting into our events. We have Farm Show fast approaching and if any of you that are reading this you should come see us at the opening ceremonies! The whole team will be helping out in different booths throughout the complex, or be showing their market animals. Those of you that show animals or projects at the fair I wish you good luck! I hope everyone enjoys the Farm show. Farm show won't be the same for me this year because I will not be competing down at the Farm show for Square dancing. The last few year's my county has gone down to compete in the competition, but this year my county was unable to find enough people that were interested in competing so we aren't going down. This year I will be attending Farm show with my State Council team instead, which will be just as fun I'm sure.

State Leadership Conference is Wild for Leadership and it is on its way here! I hope that those of you that will be attending the event is just as excited for it as I am. The team has been working hard preparing for this event the passed few months. Everyone will create so many memorable moments throughout the weekend by making new friends and gaining leadership skills. There will also be great inspirational speakers there to get you thinking and maybe get you inspired to do something different. Throughout the weekend hopefully you will learn something that you will want to bring back to your county and show to your own clubs. There is so much that you can do with what you will get from the weekend. This weekend adventure is around the corner, and soon will be here. It will be a blast and I hope to see you all there!

For now it is time to celebrate the coming year. I hope that some of you when you are planning your new year's resolution that you will try to include something for 4-H as well, even if it is something very simple. For example trying a new project, or going to one of the state events(which I encourage you to do!) or going for an officer position for your club. Whatever you may decide to do it will be worth your efforts, you will learn something new from the experience. Just try to stick with it, even when it seems a little rough, it will get better and I hope that when you look back at it in the future that you will be glad you tried it. Enjoy the holiday!

New Year, New beginnings

“You can’t change the past, but you can ruin the present by worrying about the future.” Just like the quote suggests, the past is the past and it can’t be changed. It does not suggest, which it should, that the past is something to be learned from. The past is simply a tool that helps you improve, even if you didn’t have any mistakes.

December is a busy month for all of us: wrapping presents, sending cards and even listening to holiday music. For the State Council it is even a busier month with preparations for the PA Farm Show and State Leadership Conference. I hope everyone that is reading has sent in their application to attend SLC. It will be a roaring good time filled with many experiences that are not worth missing. Get ready to be picture perfect in a photo booth that will join us all weekend.

In the upcoming months our team will busy attending Farm Show, planning and attending SLC, while creating a memorable State Achievement Days. If you are visiting the Farm Show Saturday be sure to tune in at the opening ceremonies where you can spot us. If you are not up there for Saturday’s events you can stop by the 4-H booths in the Family Living building. This year there will also be a 4-H food stand selling pork BBQ.

Hope you all have a wonderful new year celebrating 4-H’s 100th anniversary!! A thought to ponder: “Don’t count every hour in the day, make every hour in the day count.”

Looking back

The year is 2012 and six youth are headed for the farm show opening ceremony. This is possibly one of the largest nerve racking moments of the new year. I can't wait till the farm show.

2011 was definitely one of my best year while in 4h. I look back and see many opportunities, and achievements that I have completed. I have met over 100 new friends and gone on the greatest opportunity a 4Her could have. My latest trip to Atlanta, Georgia for the national 4H Congress, was definitely the biggest highlight of 2011. There has also been many other opportunities that i have had, not only on state level ,but in my county to. I enjoyed 2011 ,but its time to look forward to 2012 and all of its twists, turns, and obstacles it might hurl at me.

Turkey Time

I must say this month has been my favorite of my time on council, but yet there are still more to come. At the begining of the month my county held our Annual Leader's Banquet where we recongize the 4-H leaders in my county. This I was givin the chance to speak as a State Council members and also tell about my experience so far. I have also had the chance to speak with a few people from Range Resources.

Thanksgiving was a good time for my family and I, but my vacation where I can sleep in everyday was cut short. I was chosen back in July to be a representative from my county to attend The National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Georgia. I left home at 3:00am on Friday and returned at 5;30pm on Tuesday. This experience was one that i wish i could have again. The first day we were there was our pin exchange which was really cool because everyone brought pins representing their state or the area in whih they came from. The second day we got to do icebreakers whhich I can honestly say helped me to meet so many new people. I meant a guy from Ohio, some girls from Hawaii and even a guy from Puerto Rico, there were tons more people that i meant that week. I even meant people from my own state that I didnt know before. Also i got to spend time with two fellow council members and enjoy that great experience.

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving, and if anyone went hunting, or is going hunting that they are safe and have fun.

End of the year activities

The last of the autumn leaves have left the trees and cold weather is ready to settle in. November was one of the fastest months this year. It started of with a face to face meeting to start planning the fast approaching State teen Leader Conference in January. It is now the ending of November and I just got back from Atlanta, Georgia from the National 4H congress. I had a Mind-Blowing time. If I was allowed to attend next year I would.

Thanksgiving this was a extra special, because on November 21, 2011 the Lord gave my aunt a little package. This package was named Aiden. Unfortunatelly I was recovering from a cold so I wasn't allowed to hold him

As the snow begins to fly and the cold winds begin to blow only two things come to mind
,Christmas and Farm Show, both are very enjoyable and interesting. I can't wait for either of them. I want to wish everyone a merry christmas and a good luck to all the hunters out there.

Gobble Gobble!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving because I know I sure did! Even though I worked everyday on our break away from school, I still am so thankful that my family was able to come celebrate with us! My sister now lives in North Carolina, my other sister goes to college, my grandma lives an hour away, and my other Grandma lives in Virginia! So, it's always hard to get together when all of have such busy schedules. Thankfully, the busy schedules died down and we were able to all come together for a great Thanksgiving and one that I will always remember!

This month I also got to represent the 4-H program by giving an interview on WTAJ news channel. It was a blast! I went with one of the local 4-H Horse Clubs and their miniature horses to talk about the State 4-H Horse Show and what the 4-H Program is. Not only did I get interviewed by a news station, but also by public relation majors that go to Penn State. They wanted to understand what 4-H is, what goes on, and how it affected my life. They couldn't believe how much 4-H impacts just one person and the opportunities it gives to it's members. It was a pleasure to talk to them about 4-H.

Our council has been working long and hard on the State Leadership Conference! We had a face to face meeting this month and were able to cover a lot of business. We can't wait for people to see what we have in store for SLC! (:

Climbing the 4-H ladder

"The ladder of success is never crowded at the top, except in 4-H." The first part of the quote was stated by Napoleon Hill, but I added the line after the comma because I believe 4-H gives every member opportunities to be successful in whatever their task is. In different projects, skills learned or even placing in events there will always be other 4-H members climbing the ladder too. You must remember that you have something special to offer and you need to shine through your fellow members. It may be crowded but each member has their strengths and weaknesses but with support from your peers, everyone will have a opportunity to be at the top of the ladder.

November was full of exciting 4-H events. The highlight of this month was being able to attend National 4-H Congress. While on the visit to Atlanta, Georgia I participated in different workshops and tours in the Atlanta area. There were 49 Pennsylvania delegates that traveled with me. Not only did I meet 4-H members from around the nation but I also got even closer to 4-H members from Pennsylvania. This chance is once in a life time opportunity, that I had the pleasure to participate in. Next year, I encourage all members to apply for a spot in the 2012 delegation.

I also went into a local school's classroom and taught the class about this year's National Science Day. The students participated in the activities tied in with the day. They loved the hands on experience to create their own wind turbine.

As December comes, holiday cheer fills the air. This season enjoy the holiday with your family. Family helps to make your 4-H career so much better. On that note, here is something to think about: "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those that matter don't mind."

An end to the month, brings a beginning to a new one.

This month has been a preperation for hard times ahead. I have had to do so many things, and yet I was still able to spend time with my family. State council has been busy preparing for State Leadership Conference. We had our very first face to face meeting together at the beginnig of this month. I would say that it was successful. It was great to see everyone again after the few months that we hadn't seen everyone together since our training weekend. We spent all day together deciding on great things to come for State Leadership Conference. I am excited for the event, and I with all our planning and hard work will be enjoyed by the attendents.

In November I have been busy with a lot of things. One of them includes a yearly program that I have participated in since '07 it is called NaNoWriMo. It is where the participant writes 50,0000 words in the month of November. It could be anything you want, just to get you to write and get your creativity flowing. It is great fun and a way I spend time with my siblings, two of them participate in it as well and we have a good time with it. I have won every year since I started, but this year I am having trouble with it. I am uncertain whether I will be able to complete it or not, but at least I have tried. I still have a bit to do, but I think I am determined to try to complete it before 12 AM today. If I don't, then there is always next year! I can start working on my novel that has come from it, and maybe get it published within a few years. I enjoy the ideas I have gotten throughout the process and sometimes wonder where they come from.

Some ideas that seem to appear out of no where become great ones, and I would have to say the same for my story. Now it needs some major editing but that is something that I can always do later, when i have it all written, because I cannot always remember an idea that comes to me, I don't have a tendacy to write every one of them down and instead store them in my memory, which I will say isn't the greatest idea.

At the end of the month on top of writing in my NaNoWriMo story I, like everyone else; was preparing for Thanksgiving. I had a great time spending time with my family, and enjoy this time of year. To those of you that went Black Friday shopping, more power to you. I stayed home on the farm, not interested in going down the hill into town. I was instead preparing for Opening Day. I was putting up tree stands all day. Then got excited for the big day. When that day arrived, I awoke before the sun so that I could get into my stand. I was grateful for the beautiful day, because it was said to rain the week before but nope, it was nice and clear. There was an occasional breeze but it was a pleasent day. I even ended up getting a buck at the end of the day. I hope that everyone enjoyed the day as well, whether hunting, or spending their time doing something outside, or however else you spent your day!

Enjoy the nice weather while it lasts, because winter is just around the corner. Now for some of you that is good news, but for those of you that are similar to me and like the warm weather over the cold, its time you start hybernating! Just kidding, just make sure you bundle up. Some of the greatest moments are ahead of you, like sledding, skiing, snowboarding, making snow angels, having snowball fights, or building forts and snowpeople, or what have you. I enjoy doing a bunch of them on a nice winter day, but one of my favorite thing to do is cuddle up by a warm fire, with some hot cocoa in hand.

It may get nasty outside in winter time, but there is still good times to be had with it, there is always going to be some bad with the good. That's life. You just need to learn how to enjoy yourself along the way!

A Successful Year In the Backwoodsmen 4-H Club

Just the other night the Backwoodsmen 4-H club held its annual award ceremony. Even though not many of the members showed up, we still had a good turn up. In the beginning I was honored with the opportunity of giving a speech on "What 4-H Means to Me". I hope that I was able to convey just how much I appreciate what 4-H has done for me. 4-H has a huge part in developing the person I am today. After I gave my speech members recieved their awards for attending at least half of the business meeting, community services, county activites, and club activities. Some members also recieved awards from the horse project leader. There were many who got these awards. Near the end of the ceramony the leaders announced the high point 4-Her of the year. For the senior there was a tie between my sisters Kate and Lizzy. I am very proud of them. They both represent the 4-H program with enthusiasism and love for the program. I hope this year will be another successful year in the Backwoodsmen 4-H club, as every year the club becomes stronger.

Happy Halloween Everyone!

I hope that everyone has had a great halloween. Whether it be spending time trick or treating with family, or carving a cool design into a pumpkin to make a jack o'lantern, or just sitting around watching the halloween specials on tv; just make it fun. I spent Thursday night trick or treating with my siblings and my nephews. It was a lot of fun, but it was COLD! We didn't go for very long, because none of us really wanted to stay out for too long in the cold weather. I noticed though that there were kids being taken door to door by their relatives in a car! Yea, I am not going to lie. I was shocked by that. Now granted, it would be nice for that night to do that, but still I think the fun of it is being able to take a nice stroll around the town, plus it's better for you and the kids. Good exercise.

Taking it to a different subject, but similar meaning. I think that it is important to work toward your rewards. Now, some people wouldn't mind having things just dished out to them so they can just gobble it up and get the complete benefit from it, but where is the satisfaction in that? There isn't. That person may like it, but it will be an empty way to live. When you work hard in order to accomplish a goal or task then you will be able to enjoy the outcome of it. You will be able to look back and (hopefully) feel satisfied of what you have done. Your hard work may not be for the benefit of yourself, but could be for others. You 4-Hers know about hard work and getting fulfillment out of the rewards, even if they are small feats.

This month for me 4-H has been dwindling down to a slow beat. It is weird not seeing my 4-H friends as much, because I used to see them every week and now with school and everything else going on I hardly see them anymore besides at meetings. We keep in touch of course, but still it's strange to not be going to as many 4-H events anymore. I have been busy trying to convince several in my county, and surrounding counties to come and join in on the fun at SLC! It's going to be a great time, and I cannot wait to see you there.

I have a busy month planned ahead of me as October passes. Ah November. The month of NaNoWriMo! Where I (as well as many others) and several of my siblings are challenged to write 50,000 words in a month. It's a lot of fun, and crazy. I have to balance that with school, work, family, and Council. Luckily it is only a month long, and one that will keep me busy. At the end of November a few Council members are going to be joining you out to National 4-H Congress, and I hope that everyone that is going this year will have a great time! I have gone before, and LOVED it. So enjoy yourself, and accept the challenge before you! Those of you just hearing of it this year, be sure to contact your Educator about it so that you can go next year, you won't be sorry. (....well you might if you don't find out more about it!)

Happy Halloween

This month Northumberland County held it's first county council meeting. I am happy to say that a total of 10 people were able to attend plus the 2 advisers. This is a record amount since we tried restarting the county council 2 years ago. We are now able to plan events for the teens in Northumberland County. I am looking forward to the fun day we are planning in Feburary. Also this month I was able to attend the TAC (teen advisory committee) Meeting. TAC is essentially a multi-county meeting. I believe there were 5 counties represented at the meeting. After discussing the upcoming events, in the region and state, we played Minute to Win it games. Personally I enjoy these games because most are very challenging. I have found that I am very good at the game where you slide the cookie from your forehead to your mouth. Since this month is Halloween the Backwoodsmen 4-H club was going to participate in the Danville Halloween Parade. The theme was "4-H more then a 3 ring circus". The Tuesday before the parade members gathered at the 4-H center to assemble the float and make clown hats. We also played games and had snacks to enjoy. For the Backwoodsmen the 4-H years is under way and all members are excited to get started on their projects. I hope everyone enjoyed their Halloweens.

Burrr!

It's October and we have snow! I have got to say, I am not a fan but unfortunately it's that time of year when everyone starts bundling up and getting ready for winter. Snow isn't the only thing that has happened this month! Deer running around, more school, more soccer, Halloween, and the STATE 4-H HORSE SHOW! Now that's what I call a great month, or is it?

The only way of putting this is by saying, I got hit by a deer. That is how my month started. I was on my way to school, just driving minding my own business when all of a sudden I heard BANG! I saw a deer head right in my driver's side windshield. Talk about scary! I had no idea what to do. I never ever had something like this happen to me and I was scared. I pulled off the road and called my mom crying and hyperventilating. The deer died and my car was definitely not looking it's best. My windshield was cracked, my door had a huge dent in it, my side mirror wasn't there anymore, and my car wasn't running right. So, since I didn't have a car anymore, my mom let me use her brand new 2011 Toyota Camry. Not a good idea. Less than a week later, I was on my way to school again when two deer ran out in front of me. I didn't hit the first one, but the second wasn't so lucky, and neither was I. It damaged the front corner of the drivers side and I have never felt so unlucky!

As the month went on, I felt my luck finally changing! I finally got my Chemistry grade back to an A so now I have straight A's and my soccer team has never been doing so well! We ended the regular season 13 wins and 5 losses. We were seeded 4th in the district and recently won our first playoff game! It has been a very exciting season and cannot wait to play in the semi-finals.

Finally, the State 4-H Horse Show. The show that I work towards with my horses all year for! I was very excited because I made it with my production horse, Peanut, who is only 3 years old and my project horse, Kid, who is 11. I made it with Peanut in a riding class and a halter class, which is based on the horse's body build and with Kid, I made it in Showmanship, which is a pattern class. The day finally came for me to show Peanut. I was a little uneasy about riding her because earlier in the year, I was bucked off of her twice! But I realized, I had to forget about the past and look forward. I ended up getting second in the halter class and took fifth in the riding class. I was so excited to hear I was fifth in the riding class because there were 14 horses and only 6 placed. While at States, my mom started to notice that my other horse, Kid, wasn't acting right. We took his temperature and it was 105.5, when it should be 101. We called the vet down and she examined him and asked plenty of questions. She finally concluded, that he had tick fever. I still couldn't tell you exactly what it is but I can tell you that it made him sick and lethargic. She told us that he would have to be administered 3-7 doses of IV medication. The first starting that day. At that time, we weren't sure if I would be able to show him or not. If his fever was down then I could. Thankfully, on the day I showed, his fever was back to normal but his attitude and behavior were not. He was very grumpy and was still lethargic. I did end up taking him in the class, and I'm glad he stuck with me because we ended up placing 7th out of 25. I have never been so proud of my horse.

The month started a little rocky but ended great! Planning for SLC is still underway and I can't wait for everyone to see how great it is going to be this year!

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone, this month has been a real treat. So far I have seen the first snow of the year and I just finished up my 4h round-ups. They were very enjoyable. This October was filled with both tricks and treats.I got a after school job working at a dairy farm. During my job I got to deliver two calves. I also tagged my pigs for farm show, now all I have to do is feed them till they make weight. If they do we will be the first exhibitors of the Hereford breed of pig at the state farm show. One trick I helped play this month was, we had a surprise birthday party for our county extension agent, Carol Schurman. She thought she was coming to a 4H round-up , but was surprised and was shocked to see so many people there.

On October 5 I attended national Science day in state college at the Berkey Creamery. there i got to help kids ages 8-13 leaen about wind energy. It was very interesting. I am enjoying my council experience so far it is extremely time consuming ,but it is worth it. Also State Leadership Conference registration is coming up, its going to be a roaring good time i hope to
see you all there.

The fun just keeps on going

Wow where to start with this past month. This month was just as busy as September. At the begining of the month my family and I attended the Keystone International Livestock Expo/ NJSA Eastern Regional pig show. I took two of my favorite Duroc gilts up. At this show youth could participate in many different contests, there was a cornhole tournament, showmanship, skillathon and of course the pig show it's self. The weekend was a blast between showing these two for the last time, and seeing fellow sheep exhibitors that I have shown with my whole life and don't get to see to often. The worst part is, I think i spent more of my time in the sheep barn than in the pig barn.
Then soccer season came to an end two weeks ago, but we were defenitly busy the whole month with games and practice. The last game of our season I ended up missing unfortunately, but I'm so glad I didbecause it was worth it. I attended the National FFA Convention out in Indianapolis, Indiana and loved it. It was amazing, especially getting to see all the cordoury jackets walking the streets of Indianapolis!
November is going to be just as much fun, I can already tell. We get to have our actual face-to-face meeting, plus National 4-H Congress!! Not to mention more planning for what is going to be an AWESOME State Leadership Confrence. The officers are already going Wild about it! We're defenitly hopeing to see you there!

Letting go of fear

Who would have thought snow would be on the ground before Halloween? With snow and ice comes change: change in the weather and change in what we wear. "The key to change...is to let go of fear." As 4-H members we must let go of the fear we may have so we can grow as a club and as individuals. Change at first is out of the normal, but as we let go we experience new things that help us grow.

During October I had the opportunity to help with National Science Day. As a council member I was a group leader with 3 younger 4-H members in my group. During the event we built 2 wind turbines and measured which one was the fastest. I also presented to my 4-H club on activities they can get involved in through the state.

As a council we had our second conference call. We are getting wild for leadership as SLC packets were distributed to county 4-H educators. So much has gone on this past month for me, ranging from the West Alexander Fair, down here in Washington, soccer games, county council meetings, preparing for Keystone, and yes of course, working on plans for the up and comeing State Leadership Confrence!!!

The West Alexander Fair, is the smallest in my county, but probably my favorite of the two. This year's fair went real well, but i dont think that there was a night that we could just sit around and enjoy a nice warm night. It was cold and rainy, and the night of the pig show, the LIGHTS went out!!! Talk about fun, lucky we had people with genorators around though. Plus to make that night even better it was my little sister's birthday. The lamb show went real well, I had a small lamb this year that i wasn't sure how he'd place, but I got Champion lightweight with him and got him donated back to me during the sale. Our sale also went well, we had many people come to support both Washington and Ohio County (W.V.) 4-H clubs, and the 2 FFA chapters.

The soccer season for me has gone well so far, we aren't doing as well as previous years but that's ok because we keep our heads held high and positive attitudes. For County Council, we had elections this month, unfortunately i had to miss the meeting but lucky we have a good president taking over.

Now my 2 favorite things i've done so far this month, prepare for K.I.L.E, next weekend, and plan for SLC!! This year i'm exhibiting 2 Duroc gilts which I take alot of pride in, also my sister is taking 2 gilts that were born from 2 of my litters this past spring, these 4 gilts i'm hopeing do well. This year's State Leadership Confrence is one to look forward to! It's going to be a weekend full of fun! Plus were going wild.

This past month was crazy, i mean with school starting, a fair, soccer, and me taking my driver's test, plus getting my 2 gilts to cooperate was fun. Now i can't wait to see how the rest of the year goes, and i can't wait to meet everyone this year at all the events!

Where ever we look, where ever we go, there is always someone to turn too. It may me a fellow member, an advisor or even past council member. They are always here building us to our fullest potential to serve you. That being said, boy to we have things planned for you! Our first conference call came and went... One of the topics of discussion was SLC. Who's excited to join in some fun and leadership building???? I know our team is! We are planning the event so you, the PA 4-H members, will have a roarin' good time! Contact your county extension agent for more information on how to register.

School has now been is session for a good five weeks... Hope everyone is having fun and learning to build their future. It is going to be a full semester for me with a lot of homework and projects. Just as school is picking up the pace, my 4-H life slows down. Now that our fairs and state shows are over our members can relax and enjoy their meetings. The next event I will be attending is 4-H science day held at Penn State. I am looking forward to helping school students have a hands on experience for the big science world.

The Best of September

This has been a very busy but successful month! Where to start? My final season of Varsity Girls Soccer started, I had my 18^th Birthday, had my senior pictures done, participated in Clearfield County’s Agricultural Safety Days, and represented the State Council at the 4-H Tailgate! Along with so many wonderful events, the first month of my last year in High School is now over.

Now that I have that big mouthful of words over, I can tell you a little more detail! It’s sad to say, but it is my last year of soccer. I will miss my teammates so much and the memories that we have made over the last several years. Our girl’s soccer program started my freshman year and it’s amazing to see how far our young team has come. From only winning 3 games our first year to now making it to districts. So far our record is 6 wins and 5 losses but I know we can work together and make it our best year yet!

My 18^th birthday went very well, even though my mother and oldest sister couldn’t be there. They were in ITALY! I was kind of bummed that I couldn’t go with them but I’m glad they had a great time! For my birthday my other sister, Katie, invited me to stay with her for the weekend at her house at college. I had a great time catching up with her and picking out my homecoming dress. She even baked me a cake! After returning home, the rain finally stopped and I could have my senior pictures taken. I haven’t seen them yet, but I can’t wait till they are done!

This was my first year participating in my county’s safety days. I wasn’t sure what to expect, especially bringing one of my horses and my comical duck Koda. I spent the morning with some of my fellow county council members teaching 2^nd graders safety around animals. I also had the opportunity to talk to them about the 4-H program and the opportunities it gives kids their age.

Recently, I attended the 4-H Tailgate at the Ag. Arena in State College. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I got there, but it ended up being a really neat experience. I had the opportunity to talk with a lot of different people and learned a lot of new things. The Seeing Eye dogs caught the eye of almost everyone there and the work they do is incredible. It was a lot of fun and I definitely would want to go again!

Seeing how this month was so busy and exciting, I can’t wait till October starts! I can already tell you, it will be one that I will always remember!

Fall is in the air!

The season of fall is upon us all. With the change of season we get to enjoy the scenic beauty while traveling places, because the leaves change to several different colors and create a beautiful sight. The bad thing is that with the change to fall it promises that winter will be here shortly. I will admit that I am not a big fan of that season. With winter brings a lot of fun things to do, but I don't like the cold that comes with it. There are plenty of you that do like winter I am sure and that is good news for you!

This is the time of the year where 4-H seems to calm down a little for my county. With it being fall it slows down a bit, because schools having started and the 4-Her's have less time to do things, but still we get together and think back over what happened during this year and plan for next year. My County Council group is currently planning our Achievement program which is only a weekend away. We get to dress up in board game characters, because our theme for that night is board games. I am still working on picking out who I want to be for that night and deciding how to go about creating my costume.All over County's are planning their own end of the year achievement programs, and I hope that they all go over with success and that everyone has a good time. For those of you that have already had that program I hope that you can think back on it as a great time.

Now even though you are going to be busy with school, and many other after school programs just remember to take some time to enjoy the change of the season. Some ways to do that is by picking apples and making cider, apple sauce or just eating them plain, or picking pumpkins, or raking up the leaves that fall off the trees and then jumping in them; because no matter what you are never too old for that!

Sight to see

September Seventh started the beginning of a long battle for many in our state. Tropical storm Lee gave it his all and hit hard, causing flooding that can only compare to that of the hurricane Agnes in 1972. Within the Central Pa area, over 100,00 people were evacuated from there homes. There have been seven people who have lost their lives to this disaster. Trees and debris are all over the streets and and in peoples homes. As you drive down the streets all you see is piles of ruined furniture and trash from peoples homes, piles that are as big as cars.

Even with all that was going on, the first people to check-in to see if all is okay, were other 4-Hers. 4-H is a family, and this really showed during the flooding of 2011. I always knew that 4-her's were close but never knew how close. The night that the flooding happened, texts came pouring in, not just from other local 4-Hers but also from other around the state who heard what was happening.Everyone was seeing how they could help, or just checking in. Just getting that text shows how much others care. This event was one that we all hopefully don't have to go through anytime in the near future, but one that helped bring us together.

To everyone who was affected by the Tropical Storm Lee flooding, we hope you are recovering well, and know that we are all here for you.

As State Leadership Conference creeps closer to us every day, the state council has been thinking up ideas to make this years conference a roaring good time. So far we have thought up a theme and have pounced on a few ideas to keep the kids entertained. We have also hunted down our speakers and cornered them according to their presentations. we have also decided on some snacks. how does animal crackers sound! I know that you are thinking that it sounds a little corny ,but it can't be because corn isn't found in the jungle.

Our theme is Wild for Leadership, and as the name insiuates this year's conference is gonna be a wild time. As for now i can say no more about State Conference .I hope you are ready to break out your inner jungle self. Your gonna need it. So get ready to be wild for leadership. Hope to see ya there. Starting a New Year

Hi everyone, my name is Sarah Bassett. I am soo excited to be serving as your 2011-2012 State 4-H Council President. First I would like to say some random facts about myself so you can get to know me. I have been in 4-H for 9 years (since I was 7), some of my projects include Horse, Air Rifle, and Teen Leadership. I have participated in many other projects, but these are the ones I enjoy the most. I participate in band, cross country, and track & field as extra-curricular activities. I enjoy reading and going on trail rides with my friends.
Last month at State Achievement Days 8 4-H members enthusiastically joined the council. We are all very excited about having the opportunity to represent the 4-H program across the state. After State Days we had a couple of weeks to do research on the 4-H program and prepare for Training and Orientation Weekend. Unfortunately by the time we got to the weekend we lost a member. However, while at the training the rest of us were able to start bonding. We have a long way to go in becoming a tight team, but I have faith that we will be come close shortly. I am excited about the themes we have chosen for the State Leadership Conference and State Achievement Days. I am also looking forward to conducting sessions on Parliamentary Procedure, as the council has decided to do this year. Once again, I am thrilled to have this chance to work with everyone this year.

Hello everyone! I'm Bridget McConn and I'm the Pennsylvania 4-H State Council Historian for the 2011-2012 year! I'm 16, a junior at McGuffey High School and a member of this wonderful organization for 9 years. In those years I have carried numerous projects ranging from sheep, both breeding and market, hogs, breeding and market, market goats, sewing, babysitting and I'm sure theres a lot more to add to this list. I've attended day camps, SLC, Capital Days and many more 4-H events but this year will be the most exciting one, it'll be like no other year that I have had in 4-H!

This year started out the same way that everyone has. It was nothing special until I talked to my county extension agent. While we were talking I told her how much I had enjoyed attending all the State Events that she has allowed me to go to, I even mentioned how cool the blazers were that the council got to wear. After that she looked at me and told me I could wear one, now when she told me that i wasn't sure whether or not I really wanted to do it. I went ahead and talked to my aunts, one who has been a chaperone at all the events i go to, and the other is the FFA advisor at a neighboring school. I told both of them about State Council and they both said it would be something to try. So I got the application from Pam, filled it out and sent it in. I attended State Days where i had my interview and found out that I made council. However it never sunk in that i made it onto council until I stepped onto the stage with the rest of the new team. This team has already survived a weekend together, and that is the first of many more to come.

A new beginning..

Hey everyone! I am Danielle Knapp and I am your State Council Reporter.

So here we go! It’s the start of a new adventure for the team of 2011-2012 State 4-H Council. We have gotten past standing in front of everyone on stage during induction in July, and we just got finished with Officer Training this past weekend. The team is still getting to know each other, but we did have some bonding time during training. I am excited to represent all of Pennsylvania 4-H for the next year. I can honestly say that when I first came into 4-H I wouldn’t have ever imagined that I(me! Who was a completely introverted kid, that never spoke at all) would be stepping into such a position.

I am looking forward to this upcoming year. All of us at State Achievement Days were unsure about what we were getting ourselves into, and are still unsure about it at times. I hope that we all stick through it as a team, and grow into a great one that will create memorable times. This is going to be a chance of a lifetime. So we are going to make the best out of it. We are going to gain so much from this experience.

We are already off to a good start. During Officer Training we set our goals and picked out the upcoming event themes. We also got the chance to meet and hear from a lot of good presenters and took in so much information in such a small weekend. We learned a lot about each other and how to become a good team during this training, but we still have more to learn. By the end of this term, we are going to be a great team and wish that we could do it longer together.

This next year will be my very last as a 4-H member. It’s going to be filled with State Council duties, and I am sure I am going to be running around like crazy, but I know that if I need any help that I can ask many people, whether it be my family, my advisors, my fellow council teammates, or alumni council members. This is going to be something I will remember for the rest of my life, and I am glad that I took on this challenge before it was too late. I don‘t want to have any regrets as a member of 4-H, and this role will help me achieve that. I am looking forward to meeting everyone in 2011/2012 through being in this position of 4-H.

Hi my name is Garrett Richardson. I am the Sentinel for the 2011-2012 PA state 4H council. i am 16 years old and I have been in 4H for 7 years. My 4H projects consist of pig, dairy, rocketry, forestry, wildlife, and cooking. My most recent adventure has been joining state council.

At the beginning of the year my county extension agent came to me and asked if I would be interested in joiing state council. Being the curious soul that I am, I asked her more about it. She then proceeded me to tell me about it. At first I was sold on the idea ,but then I found out that one of my older 4H members had been on state council. Her name was Laura Pifer. The more she talked about council the more I became interested. Then August came around and i found myself applying for council. The first major speech I had to write was to be given to all of the 650 State day participants. To be honest I was more than nervous I was petrified. I got up on stage did my speech and waited for my interveiw. The interveiw went fairly well. That night is when I would find out whether I made the cut or not. I DID!!!! That was the exciting most petrifying news in my life. Then I met the team. So far we have gotten along. We (the council) finished State Days. The next big event together Training Weekend. That weekend was the most challenging yet fun weekend in my life so far. No major problems have encountered the council yet.

Let the Journey Begin!

I had always lived in my sisters’ shadows doing the same activities they did but this year I wanted to change that. I wanted to step out of their shadows and start my own journey in the 4-H program.

While talking with my extension educator, the subject of State 4-H Council was brought to my attention. She told me that it would be a great opportunity for me because it stands for everything that I was looking for. I wanted to gain more experience in 4-H, make a difference in the program, and finally do something that was my own. I filled out the application and waited until I heard information back on what was going to happen at State 4-H Achievement Days. I was given the requirements and got to work! I wrote a one minute speech, a presentation on the Impact 4-H has had on my life, and prepared myself as best as I could for the interview. I gave it my best and I finally heard back that I had made it on the 2011 State 4-H Council! I was so ecstatic that it didn’t even matter to me if I had an officer position or not. To my surprise, I was named as the Vice President of Operations! I was so proud of myself that I had accomplished my goal and was given the opportunity of a lifetime!

The first event, as part of the new council, was Ag. Progress Days. It was the first time I attended and certainly will not be my last! I had a blast working at the Youth Building and meeting people from all over the state. Next came the Training weekend. At first, I had my doubts to whether I was capable of taking on my duties and making it through the year. But as the weekend went on, our council became more of a team and started to help each other get through the long and tiring weekend. They helped me bring my spirits back up and reassured me that I was capable of the responsibility. I am so grateful to have a supportive council and I cannot wait to get started working with them and representing the State 4-H Program!

The Beginning

Hello to everyone! My name is Lia Schmittel and I am your 2011-2012 State Vice President of Events. I am just over myself in excitement about this coming year.

I am seventeen and now a senior at Lower Dauphin High School. This year as part of my school day I am interning at the Dauphin County Penn State Cooperative Extension Office. I am very proud to call myself a Dauphin County 4-H'er. This year my projects include: dairy beef, breeding and market sheep, rabbits, chickens, pigeons, goats, swine, sewing, kitting, and baking. I am a member of seven different clubs in my county and also a club in Lebanon County. I joined 4-H six years ago after getting my first pair of rabbits. When not doing 4-H actives (which isn't very often) I can be found water skiing or at the local community theatre.

July was the beginning of it all. We had our applications in and were exchanging emails about the upcoming State Achievement Days. The nerves were building as the days drew closer. Opening ceremonies was our time to introduce ourselves to the rest of the delegates at State Days, man there were a lot of delegates there. The next day was our interviews, it was nerve racking but in the end wasn't that bad. Later that day we were brought together to meet the rest of the team and to get our offices. We were all in shock at that point, thinking what have I done and being totally excited at the same time. Closing ceremonies was our big night, induction. Standing out there in front of the all the delegates, knowing that you get to represent them for the next year was one of the greatest feelings.

After getting home from State Days we all had some time to let it all sink in and to enjoy a few weeks of summer. Ag Progress Days was here before we knew it. That was a great three days, talking with people and also getting to know each other. Our next stepping stone was our Training weekend. That was an intense three days, full of very knowledgeable speakers and fun team bonding. We learned a lot about each other and ourselves, and about how to become a team.

The year is full of endless possibilities and I am so very excited to see what it holds next.

Looking into the Ocean

“Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.” The quote I just stated is a quote that I feel explains the experiences I will have as a Pennsylvania State Council member. Taking the first stroke into the water for applying to have a spot on council was nerve-racking, I wanted more than anything to represent the 4-Hers across the state, but having that weight on my shoulders for a whole year, seemed unbearable. Once I was told that I was chosen as a member during State Achievement Days and realizing that I was not alone, I had a team of other 4-H, made that weight just a lighter. As the 2011-2012 State 4-H officers gathered for our training weekend, it became evident how much of a team we are and how much of a team will become. We can’t see it now, but by the end of the year we will have a team of 6 sisters and 1 brother. In the short 12 months that we will be working as a team we will become more of a family.

I am currently a 17 year old senior at Conrad Weiser High School in Berks County. I have been a member of Western Berks 4-H Dairy Club for 9 years. This year I own 10 Red and White Holsteins as my 4-H projects. I am a member of my counties 4-H Development Board as a teen member. I hold the office of Vice-President in my local club. As a member of Pennsylvania State Council, I hold the office of Secretary. Becoming a member of State Council, I look forward to share my passion for the 4-H program to 4-Hers throughout the State. I am always willing to share my experiences that I had in the 4-H program with any 4-H member, leader, or supporter. I look forward to representing 4-H members and the 4-H program with the rest of my team at state and local events.

A team is like a high performance racecar. With the team being the car and races being different situation or events. If everything works together on a racecar, it will function as it should , and it can race and win many races. If only one piece on that entire car malfunctions, there is no telling what may happen. Everything from losing race to blowing the car completely apart. As that car goes to more races it gets new upgrades(skills). If you make sure all of your pieces are working together and are upgraded, that car can be the best car in the entire world. So this is my message to any council members reading this blog, let us be that High Performance Racecar. We already have are individual upgrades, lets put them together so we can have a fine tuned team. If you read this blog and think "Well Yeah a team has a fine tuned car with upgrades ,but that car isn't going anywhere without gas." My answer for you is our gas will be supplied with our positive attitudes, dedication, and support for each other. We just started our first race toghether its up to us to work as a team to win this race.

Giving up the Blazer

It's hard to believe how fast the month of July came to an end along with our council term. State council was an amazing experience and a wonderful opportunity. I got to share that experience with my 5 new friends and 2 great advisers.

Logan- You were always the one to light the fire
By pushing us to make our spirits higher
As president you made us work together
And overcome to make the best better

Echo- You were Logans' right hand woman, you made a good VPO
Reminding us of reports & blogs had us on our toes
Until one day at SLC you had us all rattled
Your main responsibility was to keep track of the gavel

Seth- You provided the council with entertainment and food
We had a lot of laughs, and you set the mood
We had no idea our VPI had such a soft heart
We only thought he like heavy metal, which was only the start
We later on found out he likes to fence and ball room dance

Steve- You were the Sentinal who made it fun
You put smiles on our faces, and made us one
You told us how neat your exchange to Brazil really was
The impact on your life made it the buzz

Jonathan- You were the one to jump into any conversation
You kept us strong by providing a good foundation
We learned that you town might be handy
That comes complete with a shot gun granny

Finally...

Matt and Mya- You were our fearless leaders
That made us become better spellers and readers
I want to thank the both of you for everything you do
I will always be able to step up and take a challenge to anything that is new

We will have everlasting memories and a lot of inside jokes. We worked hard together which made us so great. Are time flew by so fast but we always have each other to make our friendships last.

Wrapping it all up.

Well, this has been a great year with so many unforgettable memories made. I can't believe that it has nearly been a year since this years council was inducted. State Council has opened an uncountable number of doors to me. With out it I wouldn't have made the friends I have, seen the places I have seen or done the things I have done. Later this month is our last event, State Days. I am have very many mixed feelings about it because it will be a blast, as all the other events, but I will be saying goodbye to my position by passing it on to the Pennsylvania State 4-H Council Sentinel. I hope to see many of you at this wonderful event and I'll see you all soon.

The realization set in the other day of how far I have come and how much I have grown as a person mentally!! (physically I'm not sure ill ever be very big) But state council has given me opportunities that I will never forget and it has changed my life. I have written blog after blog and done report after report and met person after person but the memories have and the experiences i have had will forever be near to me. The friendships I have made I feel will be ever lasting. State council was something I was unsure about and at times thought to myself I'm not sure if I can do this but I'm glad I stuck with it.

On a happy note as a way to finish out our State Council experience we are heading to Tennessee in 2 weeks as a council we will surely become closer! State days will be our last big adventure together but its sure to be lots of fun. The tears are sure to flow on retirement day and we will travel our separate ways but we will all keep in touch and stay life long friends.

Every day, people ask me if I an nervous about basic training or the air force, and I always tell them the same thing; "Not really.'' I've just been so anxious to finally get in all these years, that the idea just isn't really that intimidating anymore. The only thing I have really been nervous about, is the Texas heat. I have never been particularly fond, of the humid summers here in Pennsylvania, Texas is in a whole new heat index! But I look forward to a change of scenery every now and then, and I'm particularly excited for my tech school, where I am going for Security Forces training. As of right now I'm planning on becoming a law enforcement officer after I get out of the service, but I might just end up staying until I am qualified for retirement! I'm not too worried about deciding what I want to do when I get, because I have four years to decide on that.

Memories

The month of June flew by right before my very eyes. State Days is right around the corner and my final year of 4-H is slowly coming to an end. I did enjoy my last year of camp this past week. I was the team leader of Phineas and Ferb, and it was an amazing experience. We all became a large family and had so much fun playing games, singing songs, and line dancing. As the week ended it hit me hard knowing that it was my last year, as a camp counselor, but I know I will always keep the fun memories in the back of my mind. As I move forward in my life I do have a few things left to look forward for the rest of the 4-H year. Those thing are my county fair which I am very excited about, and State Achievement days which will be a bitter sweet event to go to. State Days is the last time our State Council will be together and we will be inducting the new council. It will be sad to say goodbye to everyone and give up our positions, but it will be great to see the smiles on the new peoples faces as they get inducted. As a council we worked hard together and made it through a lot. We all did a job well done, and good luck to the new applicants for council, because this experience is a once and a life time opportunity.

Too many times in life it is commonly mistaken that things always get easier towards the end of your assigned task, assigned duty, etc. However as the months continued to disappear and now having not even a full month waiting ahead the path has just had a few move bridges to cross.
The past month has left before we were even ready for it to begin. Summer is also now truly here. The pools, the friends, the fairs, and yes who could ever forget to mention those summer jobs that aways accompany summer. If anything the time has began to slip away even quicker instead of slowing down. July is here and that means our exchange trip to the Great State of Tennessee and then returning to the Keystone State to MC the 2011 PA State 4-H Achievement Days. Not just have the last 335 days been unforgettable, life changing, and even sometimes challenging but nonetheless I know that the last 28 days I have no fear will be all of that and so much more.
There are so many events and challenges that we try to prepare ourselves for as young adults becoming adults. We prepare to walk across the stage and receive our High School diploma, move away to college, a full time job, and even aging out of those youth organizations that got you to where you are today. We can prepare and prepare and prepare yet once those days come and we must give up the known to walk into the unknown we have to remind ourselves that the journey ahead will only broaden your horizon. I personally thought leaving high school and moving onto college was going to difficult but that was only the preparation for what I am going to feel and experience at the end of July. No longer being a traditional member of an organization that has help me to obtain so many accomplishments, built so many friendships and has created endless opportunities that continuously raise you above others.
This last month is going to be far from easy but I know it will be one of the most memorable months of life. Team, we could have never made it this far without each other. THANKS! You each have helped to make this a journey of a lifetime.

Miss You In The Heartbeat

As I look back on the time I have had this year I can not believe it is already gone and I wish I could slow down the clock. I think they should change the name from council to family, becuase that's what we have come to be and we have overcame some of the obstacles that a family has to overcome to become one and thats what we have done in the last year. We all have our own identity but we can come together and form something that becomes one and that is something of greatness and something that is hard to explain in words but that you have to experience for yourself. As the title says, it comes from a song def leppard wrote before they all went on there final tour and thats how I feel. As we all will go our seperate ways after we leave the stage I grant the best of luck to the ones that take our place and as we leave we all think it happened so fast this past year it was as if it was just one heartbeat and we will all miss it and wish we could go back and make it last longer but if you look to the past, you might miss the future that lies ahead for us all.

FUNd 4 YOUth

A few weeks ago, Crawford County had our annual FUNd 4 YOUth auction, where 100% of the proceeds go to Crawford County 4H. While attendance was down this year, we did in fact receive a thousand dollars more than last year! We are so grateful for all the local businesses and individuals that donated items and took the time to come out and bid on items. Even though my 4H career is rapidly coming to a close, I'm glad knowing that we have so many supporters in Crawford County, and I hope that 4H is around for many more years.

As the time ticks away I have realized I am a senior! WOW a senior it hits you from out of no where! I look at my past year and I have had so many giant accomplishments. My last year has been like a crazy dream that I'm so close to waking up from! The last few months of my dream will be filled with exciting adventures and memories that I will forever hold near and dear to my heart. My last few adventures will include a trip to TN with my great council friends and advisors and also state days. My fellow council members and my advisors are amazing people that I'm so grateful for. They have become my support system but not only a support system when I'm down they pick me up. When I need a laugh they make me laugh. They help me out as much as they can with whatever they can. The past week has been a rough one and my fellow members and ad visors were very understanding. I'm so thankful to have had the opportunities to meet such amazing people. And as the time ticks away the end will be bitter sweet. I will be very upset to be finished with council but ready to move on to the next big challenge in front of me.

TWO MONTHS! SLOW DOWN!

Summer has arrived! My freshman year in college has officially come to a close and summer has begun. The rumor that summer consist of relaxation is pretty much a myth. I have continued to stay busy with 4-H council duties as well as working summer jobs. However, if I had nothing to do I would be bored to no extreme. I know that all of the hard work pays off in the end and as the council year has two months remaining. Getting the chance to make trail mix at Fox Chase Farm near Philadelphia during Farm Table Day was a great way to give back and work with kids. Working with our younger youth is one of the most rewarding opportunities, they are our future. It is our duty as older youth and adults to help equip them with the skills to excel and succeed in life. Now that summer is here the month has done nothing but gone by faster, June is here.
As my last 4-H summer takes it's stance I know each event and each memory will be everlasting. I am going to miss raising my summer 4-H projects for the 4-H Round Up. The time spent and the hard work that is put into each animal to have them at their best quality for fair and round up. I know the month of July and August will bring bitter sweet moments but each one will build memories that will be with me forever.
Looking ahead these next two months are going to be filled with events and activities that build the bonds closer and bring each one of us together even more.

Ride of a Life Time

May was a crazy month for me, from start to finish! The first week of May was Capital Days which just happened to be the same week as my finals at college, so there was a lot of pressure. Then after school was out I had a one day break because it was time to start working on my 240 hours for my internship and my minimester of summer school would begin. The class I took over the minimester was speech. The class was four days a week, for three weeks, and was 4 hours a night. The speech class was surprisingly a lot of fun. Fourteen complete strangers and I went to this class every night. As I went to class I learned something new about these people (probably more then we ever wanted to know), by playing icebreakers. We also did a group assignment, which again was a lot of fun. By the end of the class, I was actually very sad, because those strangers I met the first day are now my friends for life. The very last class the teacher set us in a circle and she gave us all a possible bag. It was a bag filled with quotes, ways to succeed in life, and the famous poem written by Robert Frost called The Road Not Taken. There are two quotes I received that I would like to share with everyone.

"Remember that there is no thrill in easy sailing when the skies are clear and blue; there is no joy in merely doing things which anyone can do. But there is some satisfaction that is mighty sweet to take when you reach a destination that you thought you would never make."

The second quote is...

"Each of us has twenty four hours a day and seven days a week. Time is available as an equal opportunity for everyone. Each of us just perceives time in a different way."

I know what these quotes mean to me but as you all are sitting here reading this think about what they mean to you.

Now that speech class is over which was a bittersweet experience for me I will take all those life skills I learned and will carry the memories I shared with those people forever. Speech class and work pretty much wiped out the whole month of May, but I did plan one more thing on the last Day. I actually got to go to the Montgomery school district, and give about an hour presentation to three Fourth grade classes. I talked to them about 4-H and and all the projects offered through the program. It was so great to see all the excited kids and how interested they seemed. I enjoyed my time with them and they all seemed to enjoy it too. Now that May is over I hope June will be just as fun and exciting as May was.

Busy Times Ahead!

Well summer is finally here after all of the crazy rain we have had lately. This means that this school year is coming to an end, which is kind of bittersweet because I had a really great year. I had classes with all my friends and didn't have any teachers that I didn't really like. But also with school out I can just call up a friend and hang out and not worry about any test or papers. May, as a 4-Her, has been pretty uneventful. But the next upcoming months are going to be packed full as I have camp, Tennessee, State Days, and hopefully our council get together. Outside of 4-H I will be very busy also because my family and I are going to Virginia Beach and Harrisburg and my sister is following in my footsteps and becoming an exchange student and heading to Italy for three weeks this summer with a short term exchange through Rotary. Also in the mix of that I have just a few soccer games left, and before you know it, school will be back and hopefully as good as this year has been. At State Days the new council will be brought in and our terms will be brought to an end. But something that I will never forget are the wonderful people and experiences that council gave me. It has been life changing and I wish everyone had the chance to do it. I would like to thank the other council members and our advisors for a year that I wouldn't change if I could. I became great friends with all of you and will miss you very much after this year.

Here Comes Summer!

WoooHoooooo summer is finally here but truly this summer will be a little bittersweet because it means my time is up with the State council and I will have to say goodbye to a group of friends that now have become a family to me and a part of my life. But on the positive side I have no homework or papers due and no more teachers and I can sit back a relax, just a little. As a write this I am thinking that I only have two more to write its kind of sad because I enjoy writing these blogs and it's my way of communicating to the people I may have or may not have meant yet, but I hope someday to meet. I guess I know how Oprah felt counting down to her finale and how that must have felt. I just wish that every 4-Her had the time of their life like I have had the chance of experiencing these past months and how fast they have went by. This has truly been a life changing experience for me. So I hope ya'll have a wonderful Summer and enjoy every minute of it and live it to its fullest.

Senioritis

At this moment in time I can feel the full effect of what many teachers and students at Maplewood High School call "senioritis"

Senioritis strikes most (99.9%) high school seniors around the mid point of their senior year, but can begin as early as 10th grade. I began experiencing the full effects of senioritis approximately two weeks ago, when my recruiter called and told me I had gotten my requested job in the Air Force. This was the only remaining concern I had about my near future, and once that had been put to rest, I decided it was time to just coast the remaining few weeks.

I've realized, the school can actually be an enjoyable place when you don't have to worry about studying for tests and doing homework. I have been lucky enough to have a study hall during an advanced foods class, and have decided to assimilate into that, so that I can work on my cullinary skills and not be completely unproductive.

May has been a pretty uneventful month for this 4-Her.

As summer nears our schedules get busier. The council kids will all be doing there own thing coming together for are last few council events. The council has a trip to Tennessee planned and are all very excited to be heading there in July. After returning from TN we will be off to state days for our last big event. I will never forget the many incredible memories I have made while being part of such an incredible team. The council returned from capital days this month. As I was packing my bag to head out to the event that I had never attended before I was truly nervous. I was worried my parli pro skills would not be as good as they needed to and I had heard from previous council members that capital days could be a hard and trying 4 days but I found it truly enjoyable. The time i spent with my friends and the government officials was very exciting. This could be because I truly enjoy how our government works. So as summer nears and our schedules get busier we will all continue to enjoy our time left on council and our time left together as such an amazing team.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

As the old saying goes"April Showers Bring May Flowers". I believe it means that if you are in a situation and need input, that it will all be ok, that something good will come from it. It may be at first hard to find that one good thing, but first take a step back and review the situation, then look at your progress, and finally that one good thing will be right under your nose and it's that you had not noticed it at first. It is like losing the TV remote, it is always in the last place you think not to look. Another great saying to finish what I am trying to say is. "A piece of gold did not start out as a piece of gold, It started out as a lump of coal". This means if something at first looks ugly or your not satisfied with something. Just keep brushing up on it or polish it till it is gold. And finally as I leave you this month and pursue my endeavors in life and State Council I leave you with a final note. "look to the past for guidance and reference, but do not emphasize upon it yet look to the future for adventure and life". Best wishes and happy endings.

I just recently watched The Lion King and I heard the famous song. This song was song by the greatest duo ever, Timon and Pumba. For the readers who don't know how the song goes, it goes like this...

This is a simple and lovable song. I loved this song when I was little, and I still love it to this very day. It makes me think back when I was little and didn't have a care in the world, but now that I am older and out of high school I soon learned that time flies, and there is always so much pressure. At this point in my life I have a lot going on. I'm leaving for Capital Days tomorrow, and as soon as I get back I have my finals for college, and as soon as college is over I am starting my internship along with a summer class. Oh yeah the pressure is on! But as I was thinking about what to write in this post, I just thought back to the good old days of watching the Lion King. Hakuna Matata was the song that stuck out to me the most. I realized that no matter how busy I am, and no matter how much pressure I am under, I will always remember to take a step back from the craziness, and sing this song, because after all it means NO WORRIES!

Coming to a Close

Time has been going so fast since we got inducted as State Council members last year. We have all done so much and learned a lot about not only the 4-H program and the people in it, but also about ourselves. The seven of us came together one day and didn't know a thing about each other but now we are pretty good friends, for only knowing each other for less than a year. This weekend we are going to Capitol days which should be an adventure for all of us but I think we will have fun. In July we are going to the Tennessee State Leadership Conference, we are all very excited to see our friends again. But soon after that we are heading to our final event as State Council members, State Days. Though we are all excited to see everyone at States it will bring an end to our terms. Hopefully we will all keep in touch because I'm going to miss you guys! Well, have a great month everybody.

Where did the months go?

Like most people I too commonly get caught in the rush, and speed of life and forget many times to stop and notice the little things. My freshman year in college has a remaining seven days of classes before finals. This year in college has been filled with memories, building friendships, taking chances, figuring how to fit everything into 24 hours, and lots of laughs. There have been challenges along the way, as expected with most occurrences throughout life. Mixed feelings are closely accompanied with the summer approaching very quickly. The feeling of accomplishment of my first year in college is incredible. Yet, the understanding of how fast this year went and how fast the future years will go is slightly unsettling.
Looking back on the past month the rewarding events in my life continued to expand. Being a delegate at 4-H National Conference was an opportunity that expanded the views on government and 4-H as a whole. Meeting 4-H members, volunteers, leaders, and educators from all over the nation builds networking systems and friendships that last a lifetime. As we walked though the hallways at the House of Representatives and the Senate creates a sense of importance and meaning.
My term is not over until I hand over that gavel and then even after handing over the title does not eliminate the passion, or the duty of representing an organization that means so much. As I get ready to travel to Harrisburg for 4-H Capital Days I know that this opportunity is once in a lifetime and sharing the passion of 4-H is an honor!
The next three months will be filled with experiences, opportunities, laughs, tears, smiles, and fun times. The months are decreasing quickly while the friendship and passion for the organization continually increases.

Spring Is In The Air

I am finally so happy to see that Spring is finally in the air! Even though that means allergies for some like me, It is finally good to see an end to old man winter and see the preview to summer as I like to call it. Even though April is sometimes still a bit cold and it rains a lot, It's like the old saying."April showers bring May flowers." And I really hope May comes soon. April is nice though because Everything comes to life and you can see all the little critters come to life in the woods and on the farm. That also means a busy schedule for Council and the beginning of a new year for 4-H and hopefully a new brigade of Pennsylvanian 4-Hers coming on board from all over the commonwealth. I hope this year that the Pennsylvania 4-H grows enormously with numbers of new 4-Hers, maybe hopefully even doubles. As for now I hope you enjoy spring as I have by walking in the woods and magnifying the beauty and bounty of wildlife and seeing new life and beginnings no matter what the journey is that they may be traveling on. What happened to Spring?

Well, to kick of this month I went to Florida with the Smethport Marching Band. While I was gone I heard nothing but good about the weather back home. I heard sunny, 60, and no snow! When we returned from our trip everything that I heard I saw. Great weather and all that snow finally melted away. But, after waking up the next morning is all I saw was snow. I really thought that we finally caught Spring but yet again old man winter still came through and pulled ahead. For 4-H events that happened this month I attended the Central Region Teen Retreat and had a wonderful time. Johnathon, Seth, and I presented about some state events and about Council at the retreat. Now I am headed for 4-H National Conference held in Chevy Chase Maryland. I hope this will be a great time and expand my knowledge in 4-H. So, for everyone out there, have a good month and maybe Spring will finally arrive!

As spring comes to town

As spring comes to town we find ourselves getting MORE snow!!! We can only hope it disappears soon. Three of our council members and some other 4-Hers from the state of Pa are heading to D.C. tomorrow for our national 4-H conference. I know we are all really excited. As we continue our council year we continue to plan capital and state days and get ready for our trip to TN. We are also working hard to fund raise money for our council. I am looking forward to seeing you all in the near future. I hope you all brave the weather till mother nature gives us spring. I know I'm sure ready for some warm weather. Time Flies

Its hard to believe how fast time flies. It felt like yesterday I was driving to my first day of college, and now I have one month left of my second semester. So much has happened over these past few months it's hard to take the time and enjoy it. Now that is almost April I do have so many things to look forward to. Today my one dairy goat just had twins. The newcomers are boys and I named them Stanley, and Gomez. I was very excited and now my sister and I can start milking again. I also am looking forward to starting my internship this summer. I will be interning at Weis Markets in the Bakery. I am very excited. State Council is going to be very busy as well. We are getting ready for Capital Days, and working on the theme for State Days. The theme this year is Who Dunnit ? which is based off of the classic board game and movie of Clue. We are also selling window clings as our fundraiser. They are seven dollars each and say " I support Pennsylvania 4-H". Hopefully people are willing to buy and donate money to their State council. This past weekend, as I was traveling to the central region's leadership retreat, I stopped at the cranberry mall to get some provisions for my long journey to Camp Blue Diamond. (i.e. Red Bull and bugles) I was amazed at what I beheld when I walked in. Venango County 4-H was having their annual mall Children's Expo. 4-H'ers from all across Vengango county and some even farther, had set up around a dozen booths which all showcased what 4-H had to offer in their area. They had everything from miniature golf, to nerf gun shooting, to leather working; and all of it was still 4-H themed! Some how Venango County even got a 4-H bear mascot with green fur! Not only were there booths set up for the actual projects, but Venango County Council and their advisory board had booths set up to show how anybody who wants to become involved with 4-H can. I tip my hat to Venango County 4-H, I was so glad to see 4-H'ers out and about showing what 4-H has to offer.

Seeing their wonderful display of "Green" really made my day.

The Lives We Live...

When counting the amount of months I have been a 4-H member, on one hand I truly begin to reflect a lot more on everything I have accomplished and everything I have ahead in those very short months. As I stood up and introduced myself to the other Agriculture Representatives at National Ag Day as the Pennsylvania State 4-H President it still is unreal. Going back years ago as I attended my first SLC I saw those elite, powerful, highly respected youth wearing their green blazers. In my wildest dreams I never thought that would be me one day representing the State 4-H as State President. Now I am sure you just read that and said how cheesy but some of the best stories in life are the cheesy ones. Seven months ago this opportunity of a lifetime began and I was not sure exactly what to expect. I mean I knew what was expected of me and all the responsibilities I had but not so much the dedication and love I have for 4-H would grow to this extent. With each new opportunity that is has arose came new memories being created, new friends being made, and new networks being built. Being asked to come and speak at the Cumberland and Perry County Speak Out night was a honor to help express the chances the youth of 4-H have in the program. Getting ready to return to Washington, D.C. for National 4-H Conference is an exciting feeling. When there is a group of any size of youth, leaders, and volunteers that come together to represent one organization there is the common understanding that this organization changes lives for the better. With my freshman year of college very quickly approaching the end, the final stretch of the race has began. Picking out my last set of market goats brings it home that the end is near. But before we get caught up in the sorrow of what happened and how we are going to miss it, it is a key factor that we take on each and every event and task as though you have the love and joy of it never ending. I am looking forward to all that is ahead including; Capital Days, our trip to TN, and then the big finale at State Days. The knowing that with each one of these events skills are going to get passed on to others and you yourself are also going to learn from others, is one of the best feelings. So remember live each moment as it's your last because the end always comes sooner than we want! Meeting and Growing with the other six council members makes every challenge easier and worth every second of work put into this term as President. I mean even at those times when we are all just one hot mess. There are many times I overlook the fact of it being work because of the true passion I have for 4-H. In life take on the challenges set ahead they will only create a strong you!

Hey everyone hope you all are getting ready for a fun weekend at Capital Days. I am, but I will be a little late due to other requirements. I am ready to see the capitol again it is an exciting experience being in the rooms where our state leaders make important decisions. I want to see you all out there to enjoy an experience you will never forget!

I am so busy visiting colleges from Indiana to southern Pennsylvania!! I am excited about college but scared to leave the comforts of home, especially if I am 4 hours away. But I am strong and will survive :)

Spring is Near

Well with our temperatures lately I think that spring is finally on its way after this long hard winter. But then again it has been 60 degrees one day then 20 the next so nobody really knows. Lately I have been doing good with the things I've been doing. All of us on State Council did great, I think, on State Leadership Conference this year. We did a 50's theme and everyone that I have talked to said it went over very well and were all impressed. Also I have been getting ready for National Conference which is coming up soon and I'm very excited. In two weeks my marching band is going to Disney in Orlando for four days to march in the Disney Day Parade. Also, just on the previous Monday I received an award for my volunteering......FROM THE PRESIDENT!!! I was very excited when I found out that I had received this award. So March should be a great month for me and hopefully just as good for all you readers out there! Have a great month and keep inviting your friends to be 4-H members.

For me Feb. was a month to just relax. I worked and did a few 4-H things but nothing major. I really need the time to catch up after last month. So I just kicked back and relaxed but I found my self saying I miss my fellow council members. Something I thought I would never say I figured I would be sick of them. I was wrong they are like my second family. When I joined council I didnt know it then but I was gaining 5 brothers and a sister in my eyes. We are all very close and enjoy being around each other so much. We even tend to fight like brothers and sisters at times. We make a great team because we all bring our own quilities to the table like brothers and sisters. Well March is gonna be more of a rush. 4-H starts back up in my county in March and im super excitied.

I begin with these lyrics because February has gone by so incredibly fast that it helps show how fast this year is going by. Remember reading that January post about how busy we were, well the truth is that was just the beginning. It is a true statement when springtime arrives everything takes off. This past month I got the opportunity to go and give a Parli Pro Workshop to the teens of the "Old" Capital Region. It was great to see the next teens that may fill our shoes one day of the 4-H program being so active and willing to learn. It also gave me a chance to meet a few more youth in 4-H I had not meant before. The 2010 - 2011 Council has less than six months left and we are ready to go out just as strong as we started. Sometimes we get caught up in the fact that something is about to end and forget to live out the remainder of it. 4-H has been my life since I have joined the program seven years ago. My college, my major, a good amount of friends, skills, experiences, and much more has come out of my past seven years in the program. I continue to remind myself not to blink and miss something as my last year is taking place. As you go and get that Champion out of the herd for your market project you know that the prime of the 4-H year is beginning to take place for the kids with livestock projects. I cannot wait to see what the next five months have in store. I know sometimes it will be tough for me to keep looking into the present and future to see what will be coming but I know that we are all a team and we will all finish strong. We started out seven months ago not knowing anything about each other and now today we have formed friendships and bonds that are continuously growing stronger. There are tough times and there are good times but we always do it together. 2010 - 2011 Council these last five months are going to be some great ones. So remember don't blink another month gone just like that.

The snow is finally melting and spring is just around the corner. I am ready for birds to be chirping, bees buzzing, and the snow to disappear. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the snow days, and skiing on the weekends, but I am definitely ready for spring to be here. I love the warm weather, and being out in the sunshine more than anything. As spring fastly approaches, State Council has to get ready to work again. We have to start preparing for Capital Days, and come up with a theme for State Achievement Days. Of course this is going to be a lot of work, but I'm sure we will have tons fun. Now that we are preparing for State Achievement Days made reality set in. At our last conference call Logan reminded us all that we only have about five months left on council! It is so surprising how fast time really flies. It just feels like yesterday that we just got inducted into office. Even though we have a short amount of time left we are still working hard and still accomplishing our goals!

As February comes to an exciting end, I've been thinking much more seriously about what exactly I want to do for the rest of my life. I've been hearing from a lot of people in the business, and none of it good. I have been looking more into making the military as a career and it looks pretty awesome.

The benefits that are opened up by staying in the air force are staggering. The job that I am looking at currently is a security forces apprentice. At this position I can work my way towards becoming a Combat Arms Specialist. Becoming a C.A.S. would pretty much be my dream job. Their job is to train base personnel in small arms marksmanship and how to clean and perform minor repairs on their weapons. That is what I do every week at 4H with the younger members! Competitive shooting and firearm education has always been a passion of mine, and getting to do that every day, would just be amazing for me.

Is it just me or is time flying ?¿?

As the year flys by i am realizing i am about to become an adult.....i used to want to grow up now i want to stay 17 forever. But oh well i want to say i had a blast at SLC this year being on the other side of the program. I want you all to see the behind the scenes of the weekend it's amazing. Farm Show was sweet we all got to go to the dinner and meet the state's important people.

I cannot wait until SUMMER!!!!!! does anyone feel the same??¿¿ I am getting my truck ready for the pulling season so come out and cheer. I have been accepted to five colleges and I am having a hard time deciding where to go. Hope my choice is the right one!

I'm in A Hurry And Don't Know Why

It's like January just showed up and left without letting us know that he was here and never stopped to say hey or anything, or is it we where all to busy to stop and say hello to him. Sometimes I wonder if that isnt the problem when people say that time flies by and that it is just that people do not just take the time to stop and look and listen to the clock instead of always saying" O no I am late, I better run" . The Human race is funny because we are always in a hurry and we dont always no why. Maybe we are in a hurry because we try and push the snooze button twice likee myself and then in turn get dressed and ready for school in 10 minutes and run into school with a minute to the homeroom bell. And whats funny is we will do all agian tomorrow even on purpose again. Another reason is that we try and get it all done in one day but the truth is it is not going anywhere today and so it will always be there tomorrow to work on and in way is going to leave you. Is January Over Yet?

This past month was a little crazy for most of us council members; what with Farm Show and State Leadership conference. But now with those out of the way we can take a short break for a bit. However coming up in May we have our PA State Capitol Days.

But with 4-H aside, this past week I delivered my final presentation for my high school senior project. (an assignment necessary for me to graduate) I did my project based on the Eddie Eagle GunSafe program, which is sponsored by the NRA. The program teaches children in grades K-3 about the 4 basic ways to stay safe around firearms, which are,

LEAVE THE AREA

AND TELL AN ADULT.

I particularly liked this program, because sadly gun safety is no longer taught in schools, so children are no longer instructed about gun safety unless the attend a hunter's safety class. As a plug for the 4-H program after I presented I also offered the number for the local extension office for interested kids, who when they were ready, could enroll in our local shooting sports clubs.

WOW, what a month!! When I last posted a blog I was packing to head to the farmshow for a fun filled adventure with family, close friends, and my fellow council members; now the month is over and I have made many new memories, new friends and learnt many new things. My week at farmshow allowed for many new friendships I met many new people and strengthened friendships by staying with my council members for a night! Attending the farmshow as a state council member was a once in a life time event!! Attending the governors banquet I talked to many people who are involved with Ag like I! Then the opening ceremonies where I got to represent 4-H as a state council member was so much fun hoping it didn't turn out like Noah's Ark we entered the large arena with all eyes on us the representatives of 4-H. Farmshow allowed for some personal goals to be reached as well! I got master showman with my lamb!! That was great honor for me. The next weekend I was PSU bound for one last chance to practice! After listening to CJ ask me if I was going to hop one hundred or so times we had our lines down. We were ready to go!! When we got to the conference center the next weekend we all had jitters!! After decorating we decided to give Mya her birthday gifts and cake (which she knew nothing about) Good job council. Kicking off the weekend we all got to see if a carer as a quick change artist would be good for us as we switched outfits from our skit clothes to our official dress. Then we had many wonderful speakers who we are grateful for. As the weekend continued we made new friends (The wonderful folks from Tennessee state council) and many others we learned new things and made many unforgettable memories. As I start to finish this entry realizing I could go on and on and on about this past month I would like to say Thanks for helping us make a great conference and hope to see you all in the near future!! Have a great 2011 its off to a wonderful start!!

The time of OUR lives

The new year approached so fast and state council was busier then ever. We kicked off our new year by spending a weekend at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show. We had the opportunity to dine at the governs dinner, and participate in the opening ceremonies parade of commodity reps. After participating in those two events it makes you look at the Farm Show in a whole different perspective. As the excitement of the Farm Show came to an end it was time to prepare for the Leadership Conference.
The weekend came so fast as we were all warming up by practicing the hand jive and getting ready for Saturday's hop. This was our time to shine, as we hosted the biggest number of people ever to attend the conference, which was 360 people. We also hosted our special guest from the Tennessee council.The conference was so much fun and it all started off with fifties games and root beer floats, and of course I can't forget about the great skit that the we preformed. It was a great way to kick-off the conference. The next day was another day of fun and excitement. Of course there were the great workshops throughout the day, but this years dinner speaker was truly amazing. The Brain show was highly entertaining, educational, and full of fun dances. Then as the conference came to an end, it was sad to leave, and say goodbye especially to are new friends from Tennessee but thankfully we will all be visiting them in July for their conference. This event was so much fun, stressful at times, but when we look back at those moments we will just laugh. It was a phenomenal experience, and I can't wait for Capital Days!

WHAT A MONTH!

What an incredible beginning to the year 2011 for the Pa 4-H State Council. As a council we spent the first weekend of the Pennsylvania State Farm Show together representing Pa 4-H and the 125,000 plus youth we represent. As president I was given the privilege and honor to get my photo taken with Secretary Redding and then with all the other representatives of the Ag Community. We then got to enjoy the Governor's Dinner and speak with a number of people that are supporters of 4-H as well as supporters of Agriculture as a whole. As the week continued I stayed busy volunteering and representing 4-H. My 2011 Pa State Farm Show week consisted of volunteering at the Livestock Office, volunteering at the 4-H booth, and having the once in a lifetime opportunity to be asked to represent 4-H as one of the selected few asked to be there to accept a check for the Farm Show Scholarship Foundation. It was an week of fun, meeting new people, representing 4-H and making unforgettable memories with every opportunity I was given.

As the Pa State Farm Show came to an end I headed to the Penn Stater for the State Leadership Conference Walk Thru the Council had. We got a chance to finalize our last few plans for the conference so we could make it the best.

A week later we all returned for the conference we had been planning since our term began. More than 360 4-H youth were at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center to take part in an amazing opportunity for 4-H teens. This was a weekend of teens getting the chance to expand and learn more leadership skills while getting to meet other 4-H members from all over Pennsylvania. The Conference was a true success. As a state we expanded our leadership skills and took this opportunity which helped us be a step ahead in the world. As a council we were given the time to show our hard work and it helped our bond as a council grow tremendously. We spent a large number of hours working to strive toward success which is believed was reached. As a council getting to see that end product makes every tough moment worth it. The memories as a council, the laughs, the tears, the disagreements, the fun, and the joys will stay with each one of us for life. We also got a chance to meet some pretty amazing people from Tennessee State Council and we cannot wait to see you all in July! Being one of the seven council members that plan one of the largest youth leadership conferences is Pa is a privilege and a honor. A huge thank you to every volunteer and educator as well as every speaker and presenter that helped make 2011 SLC one to remember. And remember Pa 4-H as Ms. Christy Bartley said, "You have to do your best 100% of the time not just 99.9%." I cannot wait for all the other opportunities awaiting for council, as well as myself personally.

New Year, and boy is it busy!

Well, happy New Year everybody. And we had Christmas last week. I hope all of you in PA 4-H had a great Christmas.This month should be a good month for me and everybody in 4-H. This weekend is Farm show which, I have heard is one of the greatest weeks of the year but I have never gone. So, farm show will hopefully be a great experience for me. This month we also have State Leadership Conference so get your leather jackets and your poodle skirts and prepare for an amazing weekend at the Penn stater. The new year is beginning and the 4-H State Council is ready to bond and spend a ton of time together! We have farm show, one of the best weeks in the year! The past year has been a blast the days aways pass by so fast. There were tough times to arise but we always have our eye on the prize. Graduating from high school and now testing those learning tools. Now the first semester of college went right by and it felt like just yesterday we all said goodbye. Our new team is ready for State Leadership Conference in Happy Valley the 50's will be this years rally. As the state comes together as one we are always for sure to have fun. But always remembering we are there to grow in leadership on our three day trip. Happy 2011 from Pennsylvania's top seven! Good luck to everyone for a good year and we all know in July we will hold back that tear.

January keeps council close

So as I sit here and debate about what to put in this blog entry I think of all the times I will see my fellow council members in the next month! To start off this month we have farm show. At farm show we will all be together at the governors diner and then at opening ceremonies for the farm show. We will stay together in a hotel near Harrisburg and all commute together to and from the farm show complex. I know for a fact we are all excited do to the fact we have not seen each other since October. Then on the 15Th of this month we will all be together for our council walk through at the Penn stater for state leadership conference (less than a month away)!!! Then the next weekend is the 2011 State leadership conference!! Our council has worked so hard to pull things together to make it an SLC to remember!! We are excited to meet new 4-Hers from across the state and to reconnect with old ones we have made at previous SLC's. So I have come to the conclusion that January will keep me busy and well acquainted with my fellow council members. So until next time have a safe month and I hope to see you all at farm show or SLC! Rolling in the New Year

As 2011 fastly approaches it is always great to look back and reflect on the things that happened in 2010. So I don't know about all of you but I have a list of the top 10 exciting things that happened to me during 2010... so here goes nothing. 1.) I Got my driver's license 2.) I got my first Dairy goat (Queen Latifah is her name and she is my pride and joy) 3.) I won the Pride award in band 4.) I got my first job at Scot's Lo Cost (which is soon to be a Weis) 5.) I graduated Montoursville Area High School 6.) I am a freshman at Pennsylvaina College of Techonolgy and I made the Deans list for the first semester 7.) I recieved a 4-H scholarship 8.) I won the most outstanding 4-Her in Lycoming County 9.)This christmas I got an ice cream Maker 10.) I am the New Secretary of 4-H state Council.

It is always nice to take a step back and look at the things you did before you move on. So the challenge is up for everyone. You should think about your most 10 exiciting things that happened in your 2010. Then you will be ready to move on and focus on the new year and your new year resolutions. Christmas, bagpipes, and the ASVAB

Based on my favorite gift I got this Christmas you'd think I was an 18-year-old in the '70s. The thing that I wanted most this Christmas was a record player. For the last few years my friends and I have been amassing a decent sized record collection of classic rock, polka, and any other genre we felt was necessary to have around. A new favorite pass time of mine now is listening to the Bagpipes of the Royal Scots Dragoons at 45 RPMs while they play amazing grace.

Another thing I've gotten around to doing over my vacation was taking my ASVAB. I buckled down and spent the three days prior to my test date reading The ASVAB for Dummies and actually found the information in it very useful, and would recommend it to anyone who plans on taking it. The book covers all nine of the categories in depth that are on the 225 question test.

Winter, Oh How I've missed Thee

As December begins, along with deer season, that seems to be the real start of the holiday season for my family and myself. Thanksgiving for us is just a meal together for a couple hours; but deer season? Now that is an entirely different story. For three weeks in a row we spend the majority of our mornings in each other's company sitting in our stands waiting for our four-legged bounty to wander within accurate range of our generation (generations in my youngest cousin's case) old rifles.

Another thing I look forward to in the upcoming weeks is my eighteenth birthday. One of the downsides to being a December baby is no matter what, your party is always weather dependent. On more than one occasion I've had to delay it a week or three. But thankfully my birthday is just barely far enough away (on the 12th) from Christmas that I'm not one of the unfortunate souls that receives only one gift that "counts for both."

Well that is about everything on my mind at the moment, may you all have a wonderful rest of the holiday season with your families and God Bless!

Happy holidays to everyone here! I hope that your Thanksgiving was great and you had fun with all of your family members. We now know the Christmas is near because we finally have snow. So everyone get ready for some more holidays that are soon to come.

My Christmas is going to be extra special this year because I will spend it with two of my exchange siblings. My host sister from Brazil, Bruna, is coming to visit my family and I for three months, and will be arriving on December 19th. Also my exchange brother, Eray from Turkey, will be here too. My entire family is very excited for Christmas and New Years this year.

As many of you know 4-H National Congress was just held in Atlanta Georgia. I attended this conference and would recommend this to any 4-Her around the country. At National Congress we attended workshops, did community service, went on tours of Atlanta, and practiced leadership skills while meeting 4-Hers from 43 states and Puerto Rico. We also raised over $60,000 to build the second Clover House for the Habitat for Humanity organization. Some of the community service acts we took part in were cleaning parks, raking leaves, reading to underprivileged children, and helped the Books for Africa Program. We had several motivational speakers and all of them were simply amazing.

Remembering to be Thankful

Thanksgiving has come and gone, the Christmas decorations are beginning to find their way out of storage and around the house. The smell of pine, and home baked pies and cookies fill the house. All the leaves have about fallen and the winter jackets are beginning to make an appearance. State Council has had a November of continuing to prepare for our filled January. State Leadership Conference is beginning to come together great! Also we know that as soon as Thanksgiving is over the thoughts and excitement of Farm Show is there. Thanksgiving gave me a time to catch up with some friends since we had a break from college and see family. Oh and not to forget to go and see everyone at the Extension Office, I have not seen in a long time. My first semester of college is coming to a close very quickly. The thoughts of my first semester going so fast truly shows how fast times goes by us. I am enjoying college and State Council and doing my best to take advantage of any opportunity that may come my way. As we all know Thanksgiving is a time of being thankful, I can honestly say I am blessed and very thankful to be one of seven teens who is getting the chance and privilege to represent PA 4-H. Hope everyone enjoyed their turkey and got lucky enough to see that trophy buck on the first day!

Gobble gobble as the turkeys would say. As December is almost here Thanksgiving just ended. It was a nice six day break from school and good time with the family. My thanksgiving vacation started off great because we had two baby goats born and they are so cute. I named the little boy Eli and my sister named the little girl Izzy. They are both doing great and are healthy.
With all the excitement of the babies the next day was Thanksgiving. I love helping out in the kitchen. I made the pumpkin pie for dessert, and pan gravy which was very good if I do say so myself. Its always great to take time out the busy day life and enjoy time to relax and spend time with family. I hope everybody had a happy and safe Thanksgiving !!!

Season For Families

As Thanksgiving has just ended and I am still eating all the great leftovers, which is better than the meal in my opinion and watching plenty of football I find that that all truly doesn't matter as long as my family is together and enjoying themselves. That is the true meaning of this season. In the times that we live in it seems that money and material things get in the way of what truly matters to us and the core of our backgrounds and what the country needs to come back to. I have found that those moments with your family and loved ones are never returnable or replaced once they are gone they never come back. a job, shirt or computer is but a brother, mother of father are not. So no matter what that annoying boss may say the true meaning of this season is truly the heart of the matter. Family.

Getting colder, Growing Closer.

It is getting to that time of year when we slow down a little bit, and become a closer family. But for me I'm still staying very busy just like all of us state council members. In a couple weeks I am flying out of State College airport heading to Georgia to go to National Congress. I am very excited for National Congress, I will have the opportunity to meet 4-H'ers from all over the United States. And just yesterday we had Halloween, for Halloween me and my family all get together and we have a lot of fun. But it was cold, really cold here but we had a good time as a very good close family. I hope all of you reading this and everyone else have a very good month and happy Thanksgiving.

It's that time to dress up again

As the 31st dawned upon my friends and I we had to decide what to wear. Having no idea what to wear we just went and bought wigs. This head dress was not only a wig it's the world famous Mullet wig best thing ever invented. It was time to get candy, we did feel like 10 year old's again, it's funny seeing 17 year old kids have so much fun. Now all the candy down the hatch we wonder what's next? Maybe some turkey...Eh i cant wait for the snow!!! Winter is my FAVORITE season. When I was in grade school I loved waking up and seeing the 6 inches of snow, that had just fallen, covering the road and hope school is delayed. This year I am on my schools co-op program and go to work at 6:30am and work till noon then school. I still love waking up and seeing the snow cover the roads, just because I have my 4x4 truck to play on the roads. But I want this year to go slow. Changing Leaves, Carhartt Vest, and Apple Cider FALL IS HERE

From the leaves changing colors to straw bales with pumpkins everywhere for decorations you know Fall has truly arrived. As council members, we are all continuing to grow closer and the friendships are getting stronger but we are always getting to see those hidden sides of members, that is their creative side. The October meeting was held in State College and every council member came dressed for the season. There was the pirate, the superheroes, the ninja, the Renaissance man, the reality star, and the none other than the State Council Advisors. Everyone is beginning to understand how each other works best and the certain strengths that one may have that another may not. A few of us helped out at the Bucks County 4-H Office Training the night before the meeting in State College so it was a busy weekend for State Council. I have to say guys this time I was really lucky to only have a five minute drive from Del Val to the training, no worries though the luck will get passed around. We are all in the thrill of planning the State Leadership Conference, it is going to be a great weekend! Don't miss out, register at your County Extension Office!!!!! As each activity passes the memories continue to be made, the leadership skills begin to become stronger, and the friendships become closer.

Ready for Winter

I would have to say that October is definitely one of my favorite months of the year. Despite the fact that it means that the school year is now in full swing, It is without a doubt the most beautiful month up here in northwestern PA. It also means archery, squirrel, and bird season. In case you hadn't caught on, I'm pretty much a hunting fanatic. I might just be one of those people that prays for snow during those cold winter months, so that in case my aim is a little off tracking my deer is much much easier. I actually look forward towards spending a few hours at the gun club and making sure my rifles are all sighted in.

On another note this school year is looking pretty good, and funny enough three of my teachers are either transferring to another school next year, or are retiring so they too have a similar condition to "senior-itis."

As council continues

As our council year continues we are all beginning to become more comfortable with each other learning more and more about each other every time we talk! We are learning to work together better and are having fun doing it. This month we had our first face to face meeting and I think all of council would agree we accomplished alot even though the meeting had to be cut down an hour do to half of council traveling to Bucks County (Close to the Jersey line) to help with their officer training on Friday night!! The officer training was a learning experience for not only the kids attending but council also because there were 3 of us each teaching a different office at the same time with different slide shows in the same room. A challenge yes, but we did it and I think the kids got alot out of it. The meeting the next day was fun. With council dressed up in there favorite Halloween costumes from Jersey shore characters to Batman, and even a pirate everyone looked great. We all had fun working on our State Leadership Conference. We are working hard making it a State Leadership Conference no one will forget. Council keeps us busy with monthly activities but we do not only promote 4-H together at state events we go back to our counties and work just as hard to promote 4-H. This month was a busy month for all 4-Hers since we had National 4-H week at the beginning of this month and alot of counties are wrapping up the year getting ready for a new one. In my home county (Somerset county) we had our awards banquet where I was asked to give a brief description of State leadership conference. I then did community service work at Red Ribbon Kickoff in my county promoting 4-H to the less fortunate kids in my county. Along with all my 4-H activities I have to keep up on my school but yet I still look forward to all the 4-H activities to come and am already excited to start the month off preparing for the farm show with my animals and with my square dance team. So as I finish up this post I would like to say Happy Halloween and have a safe and happy month until next time my fans!!

The most wonderful time of the Year

As Penn State football is in full swing and hunting season is to come this above all seasons is my favorite time of the year. Even though I am not a big fan to walk down my driveway everyday to catch that dreaded school bus=, the brown, orange, red, and bright yellow leaves make it all a little better and the occasional squirrel or a deer walking past the creek give me something to watch as I wait. Many people say fall is just the lead way to the long dreaded and dreary winter. I think winter is the warm up to the green spring. To leave everyone this month with a thought, the other day as I was in literature class I read a quote by an untitled writer. It went like this, "You will miss 100% of the shots you do not take in life. thanks for listening."

Trick or Treat

October, the month of ghouls, ghost, and goblins, but for me it was 4-H. It was a very busy month for me, as it started off as National 4-H Week. During that week I went to National Youth Science day and I gave a presentation to 4th graders at Loyalsock Valley Elementary School. I also had a few 4-Hers and I record a PSA to give to the local radio stations for them to play them throughout the week. All of these events were ways to promote the 4-H program and they were all very successful.
I even enjoyed a fall break from college and during that break I went with my 4-H club on a Haunted Hayride. The Hayride was fun and of course scary. Its something my club does every year and its always a blast, but the people with chainsaws scare me every time! School, work and council have been keeping me very busy because before I know it, its almost Halloween. So for thoes of you who are trick or treating tonight or tomorrow night Have a Happy and safe Halloween!

So far, since I have been elected to the position of Historian/Reporter on the Pennsylvania 4-H State Council it has been like a dream. I wasn't sure about the reporter part at first, but I became pretty good at technology in a short period of time. With everything going on in my life I have been keeping up with time management. I have lived by the saying that when a challenge is sent your way it is your duty to step up to it. No matter how big or small if you set your mind to it you can achieve it. Over the Summer and into this school year that quote has helped me out. I hope it does the same for you.

New friends or is it a family?

This August we all took the challenge to be on state council. We were all unsure of what we were getting ourselves into. We are still unsure of all the challenges ahead but I must say I am already enjoying the new friends I have made. Although I don't see them much right now, we all keep in touch like a distant family. This family is bound together with the love of 4-H. As our council year goes on I'm sure I will think of my fellow council members more and more like brothers and sisters and I'm sure I will think more and more of my advisors as the year goes on. I feel the year is off to a good start. We made a lot of progress at our training weekend and got a lot accomplished on our first conference call. I feel the 4-H Keystone Society tailgate was a huge hit and I had a lot of fun (even though Logan and I froze our hands off dipping ice cream). It's one of the little things I will remember about my council experience. I feel that our council works together well and that we accomplish a lot. I'm already having loads of fun on council and I think the other members are too. I just want to remind everyone to be thinking about State Leadership Conference you won't regret attending!

Seth's Aptly Titled Blog Entry

This July, I decided I was going to run for PA State 4-H Council. I didn’t really know what State Council was all about, but I just felt like it was something I had to at least attempt. And I am sure glad I did! Every past member that I have talked to has said that it had been their single most rewarding experience yet. I can’t wait to grow and hopefully get those same benefits that they did.

Also, this year I started my senior year of High School. So this means I’ve spent most of this summer tying to get my 50 hours of volunteer work in for my senior project. I have been spending my hours dressed as "Eddie the Gun Safety Eagle". Eddie Eagle is a gun safety program that is sponsored by the NRA. Unfortunately twenty five pounds of polyester eagle on a hot summer afternoon isn't my idea of a good time. But I know that this program has benefited countless youth across the nation, since its development in 1988. I am so thankful that my 4-H leader for recommending it to me.

Despite the fact that summer is gone and fall is coming, closely followed by winter; winter means that my Dead Eye shooting 4-H club is going to be starting up soon. Dead Eye is not a club that runs all year round like many other ones do; so I am one of those few people that actually looks forward to December and January.

Coming Back

Last year I spent my sophomore year of high school in Brazil as a foreign exchange student, which taught me to appreciate what I do in life and to do the most I can possibly do. While I was in Brazil I thought a lot about my 4-H clubs and the opportunities that they gave me. I thought it would be a good idea to run for council, I was the first person from my county, McKean county, to be on Pennsylvania State 4-H Council.

As I got back I have gotten back into the swing of 4-H and am now the president of McKean county council. One very inspiring person has passed away in our 4-H, Mr. Larry Stratton. He has been involved in 4-H since the 1940's. I have always looked up to him as a leader and a friend. So I initiated an award called the Larry Stratton award because he was such and inspiring person, we thought it would be appropriate.

Council is a challenge to balance with school, friends, sports, family and everything else we do in our daily lives. But I believe it will be a very rewarding experience to have. I am looking forward to a great year with all the new people I will meet and my new council friends that I can trust and ask questions without being judged.

A Whirlwind of Adventure

These last two months have been such an adventure for me. The start of August meant State Achievement Days was just around the corner. I was getting prepared and nervous at the same time, knowing that I was running for state council. This was the first year that the 4-Hers running for state council would have to give a campaign speech. This speech was one of the hardest speeches I have ever given, and it definitely took me out of my comfort zone. That following day I found out I made it, I am the new 2010-2011 Pennsylvania 4-H State Council Secretary. Little did I know, state council would continue to take me out of my comfort zone.

With just being inducted into office, I was ready to head off to my first week of college. I am currently a freshman at Pennsylvania College of Technology, majoring in Baking and Pastry Arts. It was hard at first to adjust to the college life but I slowly got into the flow of things. Now that I am taking on College and Council my responsibilities have doubled. The State Council training was the first major challenge. It was long, tiring, and information overload! But the six other council members and I made it through the long days, we have learned so much about each other throughout that weekend, and we will continue to build our friendships.

After the training the work for council really had begun. To start off I attended the 4-H Tailgate which was a new experience for me. It was cool to see all the donors of 4-H, and I was able to meet a few of them. I spoke to one couple (before it was game time), and I asked them how they got involved in 4-H? The lady I spoke to said "she is a 4-H leader and they used to have different clubs for different activities". I asked her what kind of activities, her reply was "roller skating, bowling, .... and even stilt walking! I couldn't believe it, I guess 4-H really does take people to new heights (literally). It is awesome that 4-H can make that much of an impact.

September just flew by and National 4-H week is almost here. With me being on State Council this is the week to shine! I am getting ready to participate in National Youth Science Day which will be held at Penn State on October 6th. I will also be giving a presentation at Loyalsock Valley Elementary School, this will be for all the 4th graders and I will be talking about what 4-H is and some of the the opportunities in 4-H. I am excited to spread the word about 4-H and what the program means to me. This truly is an opportunity of a life time and so far, State Council has definitely been a whirlwind of adventure!

Another Chapter Begins

As my last years in 4-H I figured I would just do the same old things. Go to the fair, attend meetings, and go to camp. But this year is going to be way different. I decided to become a State Council Leader and make something different happen. We all met, a group of kids from all over Pennsylvania and had no clue about each other. At our first time together, at training weekend, we really got to know each other and are now good friends. Now I have a new group of friends to ask for advice and can trust to help me. With a busy year ahead of us we pushed through the weekend and moved onto new challenges.
As my 4-H year continues I get to travel to Georgia for National Congress. This is a new experience and cannot wait for it. Our regional camp is coming up and I can't wait to start planning for a great week of fun. As this new chapter starts I can only imagine all of the good times to come this year on State 4-H Council!

As Old Journeys End…New Ones Are Waiting To Begin

The high school years have came to an end for me and the fears of closure to 4-H came with graduation. I still had another year but with being hours away at college I knew I was going to have to take my name off several activities I help with in our county. Then I took the challenge! Starting college was not a big enough thrill for me, with my last year being in 4-H I wanted to take it to the limit. I ran for Pa 4-H State Council, a challenge...yes, a thrill....yes, questioning thoughts...of course. I knew I wanted to be on council, every year always returning to SLC I would talk to the council members and they would always say you should run for council, normally forgetting about it until the next event or missing the deadline or fearing to accept the task itself was always those barriers for me. But this year I knew if the steps weren't taken the regret of the unknown would be with me far past my 4-H years. In August I took stepping outside the comfort zone to a new level, speaking in front of 800 of my peers, leaders, and educators was the task that awaited. Was I nervous, no....I mean not until my name was called to give my speech. I did my best, I gave my presentation, I gave it my all in the interview and I think it paid off. My name is Logan Hall and I am YOUR 2010 - 2011 Pa 4-H State Council President. My term got on its way, along with other council members we helped at Ag Progress Days, attended and bonded at training weekend, (Sorry Mya the girls are gone and yea I guess you can say bromance at its best plus two girls haha ), and the Keystone Tailgate at PSU are just the very beginning activities I have taken part in. It is all starting to take full swing now, college, state council, family, friends. Post it notes, well they may have became my best friend. I cant wait to represent PA 4-H for the next year and get to know the other council members better as well as the entire 4-H Community. Oh and yea State Council benefits already took place too...PSU Game WE ARE PENN STATE. Getting to experience a person's first PSU Football game is priceless and unforgettable. Thanks Rebecca it was well worth rockin out the brown dress shoes and tan pants for it. Well PA 4-H I can't wait to represent each and everyone of you with the rest of council at all the state and local events. Let the journey begin 2010 - 2011 council!

...not quite the end

It is hard to believe that only 10 years ago I began my journey as a 4-Her. It seems like just yesterday I was running around the barns with all my friends at the Clarion County fair...and making new ones along the way. As I continue and soon end my journey through 4-H I continue to make good friends and more amazing memories. As the fair week comes to an end I realize that my time as a 4-Her is also drawing to an end. But I don't think of it as the end...just another stepping stone in my journey to becoming...a "grown up". Because when I "grow up" I want to be a 4-H leader! I want kids to have the amazing experience I've had. And while I haven't been able to fill up 4 paragraphs. I hope that everyone who reads this will realize just how much 4-H has meant to me and always will!

It's not forever

This is not forever... It may be my last post as a State Council Member but this will most certainly not be the end of 4-H in my Life. I've begun my journey as Adult Volunteer in Crawford County. It's only a matter of time before I have a club of my own to Lead and encourage.

State Days which is only in a few days will be the last event for the 2010 council as a council. So if you are attending you better be ready to have a TON OF FUN!!! the Green Gala is gonna rock! You're going to have fun attending all your events, meeting people from around the state, and chillen with The Coolest Girls in Pennsylvania, The 2010 State 4-H Council Girls that is. =)
Remember, like the Black Eyed Peas say in their one song... To Live it Up!

This month I've been promoting 4-H around the county. I've painted my car again as well as others and have helped with a few local fundraisers. This summer has especially been a special one for me and 4-H because I've found myself sharing my story as well as others 4-H stories of how the program impacted our lives. I did some volunteering this month of July. I feel I especially made a difference in one of my elders lives when I volunteered to go on a trip to walmart. I was paired with him and needless to say he was so excited that he spent all his money in the first 10 minutes that we arrived. So I improvised. We tried on hats and sunglasses and we sang some camp songs (The Lemme Song!!!) and we played some camp games too like Squirt! Vincent said this was the best time he's had with anyone at Walmart.

For me, 4-H has encouiraged me to be outgoing like this example, and think quickly on my feet. It has helped me in the workplace as well. I recently had a promotion and I know my time on council helped me with my interview skills as well as just my people/proffesional skills in general.

4-H has made such a difference in my life, and I hope anyone who was a shy 10 year old kid like I was, has a parent like mine that will begin this program with their child because it will really make a difference. I owe my accomplishments to this program. I reccomend it to anyone! And anyone interestred in making a difference and representing Pennsylvania remember to apply for State 4-H Council at State Days!

See you all there, and remember to stay safe during all your summer activities.

So Long, Farewell

Hey PA!
It's hard to believe that this is my last Council blog entry and in less than a week I will be hanging up my green jacket for good.

July 7th was my region's Teen Day Away. We played carnival-themed games throughout the day and had time to hang out with other teens.

This month Council had a Face to Face meeting where we did a lot of preparation for State Days. We finished our scripts for Opening Ceremonies, practiced daily scripts, and started decorations. Also in the afternoon we watched all your video entries for the contest. We saw some great videos, but you will have to come to State Days to see the winners revealed! Council has an exciting schedule while all of you are enroute to University Park; we have an appointment with Penn State President Graham Spanier, among others! We promise that Opening Ceremonies will be entertaining and full of sparkle! We are also excited to see how our new selection process for the next Council will work with the new voting system.

Sadly this is also the 2010 Council's final event as the Induction Ceremony will now take place at the conclusion of State Days. This has been one of the greatest experiences of my life and I wouldn't change a thing. I know that every Council member before me has said this and I probably didn't believe them then, but being on Council has changed my life. It's not as hard for me to start a conversation with someone I don't know and my time management skills are better than they were before! I recommend Council to anyone who is really passionate about 4-H.

I wish the best to my fellow teammates; they are some of the greatest people in the world and I'm proud to call them my friends! I love you all!

Goodbyes

July has flown by and as we approach August I only have a few days left in office. Last year I was asked to be on the 2010 interim council. It took me some time to think about it but I agreed to do council just once more. I had the chance to attend the State leadership conference in January where I was inducted back into council. As the year went on the team went from being team members to being best friends. We have our share of funny jokes and some will make me laugh to the day. I know as I close this term our council has become strong young women. We share moments of laughter, and have been shoulders to cry on when we needed to just talk about something.
This month I went to a council visit where I promoted state days and also penny wars. They have been collecting pennies and some silver change to bring to state days. I went to my county fair where I did a presentation on my experience on council and a little about council to help promote it to the kids. The adults that attended liked that I talked about my experiences that way it gave the kids an idea of what goes on while serving 4-H.
The council team got together to finish our plans with state days. It was a long but successful day as we accomplished a lot! As the finishing touches will be added when we get to state college next week but we got a lot of the major details done. The Green Gala as the theme is a great way to show off talent and with the launch of the video contest. Members that submitted videos are in the chance to win $100 to $150 for their county! How exciting is it to win money to help your county! I would be excited! Open calls for state council applications are also being taken at state days. This is new this year as members can apply at state days to be on council.
I have finished the scrapbook and hope that as it gets passed to the advisor it can show other councils what we have done in 2010. We have been able to meet some amazing people over the year and the scrapbook can help show what we have done as a council.
As my time in council comes to an end, I wish the new council lots of luck as you start your journey as a 4-H state council member. You will represent an amazing program that helps the children. Where that green jacket with pride and promote the 4-H program around the state. Don’t judge your fellow council members before you get to know them. Work as a team and become friends. You never know you could end up becoming best friends by the end of the term. Just remember….. You are the face of 4-H. Serve them proud!
As I hang up my jacket for the last time, I hope the new council wears there’s with pride! I wish my fellow council members the best of luck on their journey’s, where ever life will take them!

Hanging up the Jacket

When I signed up for 4-H nine years ago I had no idea that I would be sitting here tonight writting my last blog as a state officer! Its been a CRAZY past year and a half! Over the year I changed SO much as a person!. I saw myself showing leadership skills in both the team and in all my other activities. I would honestly never be the person I am today without the experiences I have had as a council member. Traveling the state and getting to make friends with the rest of the team are moments I would never trade for anything in the world! Council has honestly helped me find myself when I didn't even know I was lost.

I told myself if I was asked to do it again I would say yes in a heartbeat. So in July when asked to serve a half term to help with the transition between councils I knew yes was my only answer. In January I headed to State Leadership Conference again and this time came home Vice President of Events! It was sad saying goodbye to Laura, Alex, and Jess but I have had a great time becoming new friends with Justine and Rachel!

Over the year, you the 4-H members. have seen the put together, serious council team always ready for the next task. However, I must say behind the curtain there is alot of craziness that goes on. We have our share of laughs and fun. We have countless inside jokes, laughed at our "dumb" moments, and even grew closer as we became the shoulders we each could cry on.

For those of you who are applying for council my best of luck to you. My advice is to never shut your eyes for a minute because you don't want to miss anything. Take all the brick walls you may have up down and be open to let council change you as a leader and as a person! You are representing an AMAZING program and should always be proud. Trust me, if you take your office seriously you will be wanting to never take that hot green jacket off. You will get the chance to be taught by some of the best people you'll ever meet. Take their advice to heart. Be friends with your team-you may find your new best friend or sister/brother at heart.

In less than a week I will drive to State College for the last time as an officer and hang up my now ,well broken in jacket. But I will forever take with me the memories, friendships, and lessons I have made. 4-H will always have a special place in my heart where ever my life takes me!
