February 2009
Hello to one and all!! I am Laura Pifer and I am more than happy to be serving as the 2009 Pennsylvania State 4-H Council Vice President of Operations. First of all, I would like to say “Welcome!” to the Council Blog (a.k.a. The Clover Clipboard) Here you will be able to keep up with all six council members for the year. Check as often as you like to learn about what we are doing and how we are serving.
January 30 to February 1 of this year was the State Leadership Conference. Here we six got to know each other very well, a step in the right direction as we will be turning into a family over the course of the next year. I can only speak for my self, but I am proud to be a part of an amazing team and be able to serve the Pennsylvania 4-H program.
Two weeks after the conference, we were all back together again for our Training and Orientation Weekend at the Hartman Center in Milroy, PA. This weekend was packed with learning about what is expected of us as council members. We learned how to represent the 4-H program to the best of our ability, how to answer certain questions that we would experience during our term, and what we would be doing for the rest of the year. One item of business was determining the theme for the 2010 State Leadership Conference…”License To Lead” Not only did we have a wonderful time, we got to know each other much better. Being in close quarters for the weekend gave us a great chance to become closer as a team, learn about each other, and get to know our advisors all at the same time. At the end of the weekend on February 22, with everyone heading to their own section of the state, we were all jazzed for the year to come.
All in all, I am happy to say that I am very much looking forward to the upcoming year as a State Council Member. I am excited to meet new people and be able to give back to the 4-H program. After all, without it, I would not be who I am today.
Till the next time,
Laura Pifer
Pennsylvania State 4-H Council Vice President of Operations
